December 2022: SKP Chengdu Park takes presence on the world stage of retail master planning, architecture and interior design by Sybarite. SKP is no stranger to creating firsts: ranked as the top department store globally and renowned as the most inventive operators for SKP-S in Beijing and Xi’an. SKP Chengdu will immediately become a landmark for fashion, tech and art and a new milestone for the city.

A holistic and collaborative project by Sybarite, realised with James Corner Field Operations, Arup, Speirs Major Buro Happold, Eckersley O’Callaghan and The Fountain Workshop. At SKP Chengdu, nature, SKP (contemporary luxury) and SKP-S (next generation luxury) come together to conjure an undeniable sense of interconnectedness: an ingenious combination of urban park and underground buildings. SKP Chengdu is a TOD (Transit Oriented Development): it creates dense, walkable, and mixed-use spaces near transits that support vibrant, sustainable and equitable communities.

回望作为SKP建筑设计合作伙伴的旅程，Sybarite从中文“米”字获得灵感，创造了SKP的品牌标识。在此基础上，Sybarite结合中国古代庙宇的屋檐造型，创造了“SKP曲线”，成为贯穿于所有SKP的核心建筑元素。当消费者置身任何一座城市的SKP，都能即刻沉浸于SKP的品牌世界之中。这一核心建筑元素，亦在成都SKP被广泛而巧妙地运用。

Casting our minds back to 2019, SKP-S successfully pushed and challenged what we think we know in retail terms by presenting the otherworldliness of moving to Mars in Beijing and the nostalgia of returning to a devastated Earth for rebirth in Xi’an in 2021. In continuance, Chengdu SKP-S proposes a hypothetical utopia where we can live in equilibrium through a Gate of Transition which opens up the ultimate in parallel time and space.

在成都SKP，如设计中蕴含的“平行世界”隐喻，有许多并存的体验等待发现——从地上的公园景观处进入，以织锦为灵感串联起33处自然景观，让顾客的每次到访，都有新的路径和独一无二的体验。

There are many worlds within SKP Chengdu which reveal themselves upon arrival to the park and its botanical quilt of gardens: comprising 33 crafted landscapes and scenic spots in nature. Regardless of how many times you enter the park, you may never follow the same path – the stories you encounter will always be unique.

The magnificence of the SKP Park lies in an uninterrupted vista without a hint of what lies below. The parallel connection of park and corresponding plunging architecture emerges as quarried into the landscape akin to a canyon as one descends. A sunken world of retail, hospitality, tech, experience and art are constantly in motion, evolving and changing, and yet underpinned by a common narrative – a celebration of diversity living under one ‘botanical roof’.

▲标志性景观之一的“生机之塔” 景观水柱，共六根，高度为26米和39米，柱身配有环形彩灯，拥有变化的流水和光影互动效果。景观水柱共设置5328个喷嘴、270个喷雾，5328盏下射灯、240盏上射灯、53台水泵；整体装置配有净化设备及软化消毒过滤设备，The Tower of Life set in the Land of Abundance – a series of lantern-like towering water beacon sculptures of 26 and 36 metres creating their own dramatic micro-climate and an interaction with fluctuating light settings and shadows.
