北京城市图书馆位于通州区，由Snøhetta设计，2023年落成，是世界上最大的气候控制型阅读空间。建筑以超尺度玻璃幕墙为特色，内部以近16米高的“山谷”为核心，阶梯式“山丘”从山谷中升起，银杏叶形状的柱顶和层叠屋顶过滤日光，营造出沉浸式的阅读体验。馆内还设有展览、表演、会议和古籍修复空间，并融合了世界上最大的书籍自动存储和检索系统之一。

Beijing City Library is located in Tongzhou District. Designed by Snøhetta and completed in 2023, it is the world’s largest climatized reading space. The building features an oversized glass curtain wall, with a nearly 16-meter-tall “Valley” at its core. Stepped “hills” rise from the Valley, while ginkgo-leaf-shaped column tops and overlapping roof panels filter daylight, creating an immersive reading experience. The library also includes spaces for exhibitions, performances, conferences, and ancient book restoration, and incorporates one of the world’s largest book Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems.

在本次街头采访中，我们遇见了多位不同背景的访客。有人为出国旅行前来借书规划行程，有人前来学习，有人偏爱此地环境，有人被建筑本身吸引，有人随学校调研而来，有人在此工作，也有人因离家近，得空便来读书。

In this street interview, we met visitors from various backgrounds. Their reasons for coming were different: some came to borrow books and plan a trip abroad, some came to study, some liked the environment, some were attracted by the building itself, some came on a school-organized field trip, some came to work, and some came because it’s close to home and they come study whenever free.

谈及印象最深之处，有人偏爱立体书架区，找书便捷，桌凳齐备，可坐下筛选；有人对二楼艺术区的沉浸感印象深刻；有人留意到诸多传统书籍，如非遗，认为外国人于此可获益良多；有人对阶梯式建筑形式与通透宽阔的空间感颇为欣赏；有人震撼于内部结构，层层递进，别有洞天；有人最喜大玻璃窗外的绿植与窗外景致同天花板银杏设计的呼应；亦有人认为整体光线、温度与环境俱佳，极适合办公、学习与阅读。

As for the most impressive places, some liked the three-dimensional bookshelf area where books are easy to find and there are tables and stools to sit and browse; some were deeply impressed by the immersive art area on the second floor; some noticed many traditional things like intangible cultural heritage and thought foreigners could learn a lot here; some were impressed by the stepped architectural form and the transparent, spacious feeling; some found the internal structure stunning, with layer upon layer revealing hidden wonders; some loved the greenery outside the big glass windows and the ginkgo ceiling design; and some thought the overall light, temperature, and environment were very good—very suitable for working, studying, and reading.

实际体验下来，众人皆感良好——环境舒适，条件优越，安静宜学。但也有人提出建议：阅读区隔音欠佳，内部动线稍显迂回，外化设计偏多而实用性不足；亦有人建议设置室外茶室，若环境更佳，即便价格稍高也愿意消费。此外，还有热心访客提到，偶有鸟类撞击玻璃立面，希望能有所改善。关于是否再来，多数人表示愿意，有人几乎每日到访，有人视其为常驻之地。

After actually spending time there, everyone had a very good experience—comfortable environment, great conditions, quiet and suitable for studying. However, some also offered suggestions: the reading area isn’t very soundproof, the internal structure is a bit winding, the externalized design is too much and not practical enough, and some suggested setting up tea rooms with a better environment where they’d be willing to spend even if it’s a bit expensive. In addition, some enthusiastic visitors mentioned that birds sometimes collide with the glass facade and hoped this could be improved. As for whether they’ll come again, most said yes—some come almost every day, some treat it as their regular spot, and some would consider bringing foreign guests to experience here.

最后，谈及印象最深的图书馆或书店，有人认为此处条件与环境最佳，其他去过的难以企及；有人认为西单与PG One尚可；有人主张图书馆需转型，氛围营造起来后便不止于图书馆；有人觉得其他图书馆过于普通、传统；有人怀念武大图书馆的实用性与服务，以及电子资源建设；也有人认为北京城市图书馆堪称北京最佳。

Finally, when asked about the most impressive library or bookstore, some said this one has the best conditions and environment—others can’t compare; some thought Xidan and PG One were not bad; some believe the library needs to transform its functions—after setting up various atmospheres, it becomes more than just a library; some felt other libraries are all too ordinary and traditional; some found Wuhan University Library very practical with good service and always missed it; and some thought Beijing City Library is pretty much the best in Beijing.
