O Architect Position 建筑师

@Common Wonder / China Studio
Position: Full-time Architect
Location: Hangzhou Studio, (we would support part-time remote)
Qualifications: Registered Architect (Class 1); candidates with international study experience preferred

We are looking for an experienced architect to join our China team and lead projects from design to delivery, translating design concepts into code-compliant, buildable architecture in China. Working closely with our European design partners, you will independently drive project implementation, contributing to design development, construction documentation, and research into sustainable materials and building systems.

We hope our future team member is:
• Responsible for the implementation and delivery of architectural projects in China
• Translate design intent into solutions that comply with Chinese regulations and are constructible
• Coordinate and review the work of Local Design Institutes (LDIs) and other specialist consultants
• Manage project approval processes
• Report to clients and act as the studio’s representative in China
• Provide professional advice on local delivery models, scope definition, and contractual norms
• Research and implement sustainable building materials and construction systems

You will need to have:
• Experience delivering both adaptive reuse and new-build architectural projects in mainland China
• Expert knowledge of Chinese building regulations and approval procedures
• Experience collaborating with Local Design Institutes (LDIs)
• International education or overseas work experience preferred
• Fluent Mandarin and strong English communication skills
• Passionate about design, able to work independently and take initiative
• Technical ability to produce detailed construction drawings; familiarity with Rhino and AutoCAD and/or Microstation is preferred

O Architectural Assistant Position 助理建筑师职位

@Common Wonder / China Studio
Position: Full-time Design Assistant
Location: Hangzhou Studio
Qualifications: Master’s degree or above; international study experience preferred

We are looking for an assistant who is passionate about architecture and design, and open to working across different scales — from large architectural projects to small objects. Curious and enthusiastic about design, you enjoy exploring ideas at every scale. Our daily work involves close communication with design leads in our European studio, collaboratively refining, developing, and implementing projects.

We hope our future team member is:
• Passionate about architecture and design, and maintain an open mindset toward projects of all scales, from large buildings to small objects
• Eager to learn through projects and the team, actively absorbing international design experience
• Proactively push the design process forward, demonstrating initiative and independence
• Highly skilled in drawings, modelling, and rendering
• Patient and communicative, able to collaborate effectively within the team
• Have a strong design sensibility, and assist the studio with social media content creation and photography
• Interested in research on sustainable building materials and construction methods, and willing to participate in experiments

You will need to have:
• 1–3 years of professional experience in architecture or design, capable of independently completing assigned design work
• Proficiency in design software, including Rhino and AutoCAD; familiarity with MicroStation is a plus
• Strong English skills, both written and spoken, to assist European and Chinese design leads in project development
• Ability to travel and work on-site when required, maintaining smooth communication with the team and clients
