Appreciation towards PTW ARCHITECTS + CCDI (Shenzheng) co.,LTD for providing the following description:

2017年3月PTW建筑设计公司赢得了西安奥体中心规划与建筑设计的国际竞赛。2020年6月底，西安奥体中心工程全面竣工，目前正为2021年第14届全国运动会进行紧张的筹备工作。

PTW Architects won the international competition for Xi’an Olympic Sports Center in 2017. At the end of June 2020, the Xi’an Olympic Center was fully completed. Preparations for the 14th National Games is currently in progress.

西安奥体中心是一个综合性的体育休闲设施，6万人主体育场、1.8万人体育馆和4000人游泳跳水馆所组成的“一场两馆”可提供高标准的专业比赛和演出场所，并为国内、国际赛事配备专业的田赛、竞赛、足球训练场和室内综合训练馆。同时它也被设计为一个城市的公共休闲公园，为城市的公共活动提供更多样的场所，促进如户外音乐节、主题集市、节庆活动等市民的公共生活。另外，整个园区配备了大量的运动场地、地下车库以及零售、餐饮、服务、体育培训等完善的配套设施，为赛事、演出和活动的举办提供全面的服务保障。

Xi’an Olympic Center is a multi-purpose sports facility that includes a 60,000 seats main stadium, 18,000 seats gymnasium and 4,000 seats swimming hall. The sports center functions as both games and show venues. It also provides training for track and fields, football and other sports events. The Center also provides urban public space that accommodates music festivals, markets or festivals. Other facilities include underground parking, retail, services and training spaces that support games and activities.

西安奥体中心总体设计的立意来源于古今丝路的历史和石榴花的祈愿，规划设计尊重城市西临灞河、东眺骊山的城市景观通廊，继承城市格局中山水的对话关系。主体建筑均采用单元组合的形态抽象表现花的意象，构成和而不同的建筑形象。

Inspirations for Xi’an Olympic Center design came from the city’s association with Silk Road. The planning echoed a landscape bound by Mount Li on the east and River Ba on the west. The building form idea started from abstraction of the pomegranate, a symbol of Xi’An.

6万人主体育场作为建筑群中体量最大的建筑，坐落于基地东侧、靠灞河岸边的中心，它的混凝土耐久年限设计为100年，功能设施为适合国内国际各类赛事和演出的标准也经过严格地定位。它既是城市跨河发展轴线上的关键节点，也是国际港务区的门户标志，同时它将承办2021年第十四届全运会的开幕式。

The main, 60,000 seats stadium sits by the Ba River. The concrete is designed for 100 years. The facilities are designed to suit national and international games. The stadium plays a key role in the city’s development and serves as a beacon for the international inland port. The opening of the 14th national games will be hosted here.

体育场采用“马鞍形”的看台和罩棚形式，起伏的屋面和立面构成舒展的体量和丰富的光影，罩棚由7组/28个标准结构单元来构成花的抽象形态，立面造型铝板系统的横向线条柔和舒展，随立面起伏开合，像丝带轻盈，启发关于丝路的想象。

The stands and canopies are shaped as saddles. The undulating lines of roof and facade makes for rich play between light and shadow. The canopy is made up from 7 group/ 28 modules. forming the abstract flower. The horizontal lines on the facade follow the undulating facade, symbolizing silk.

罩棚下部由7组/28个粗犷的清水混凝土V形柱支撑，造型铝板的轻盈精致和V形柱的朴素粗犷是设计试图在建筑形象上制造的视觉冲突，暗示秦汉大气端庄和盛唐精致繁荣的气质，同时也试图表达体育建筑的力量与美感。

Supporting the canopy and façade systems are 7 groups/ 28 V-shaped columns. The fine textures of the facade system and rough concrete create a sharp contrast, illustrating the power and beauty of sports buildings.

体育场屋面随形体起伏，由金属屋面和实心阳光板构成，营造丰富绚丽的第五立面的效果，在大型赛事和活动的航拍中为西安留下这一刻的精彩记忆。

The roof is made of metal panels and photovoltaic panels. The roof, or the fifth façade, provides great view from the air.

西安奥体中心主体育场突破了传统体育场设计中单一的竞赛功能，在方案设计过程中综合考虑场馆运营维护、赛时赛后转换，不断优化功能布局和流线组织。建成后的体育场为迎接2021年第十四届全运会的顺利开幕提供保障，也为未来各类大型赛事、活动提供一处功能完备、使用便捷的现代化场馆。

The main stadium of Xi’an Olympic Center breaks away from the traditional single-purpose limit of stadium. Full consideration of operation, maintenance and post-game functions were addressed during the design period. The stadium will guarantee success of the 14th national games. It will also provide a flexible and modern facility for future use and activities.
