DJI is a global leading company in research, development and manufacture of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) control system and solutions. The products and services have been applied in a diversity of specialized fields, such as filming, agriculture, real estate, journalism, fire protection, search and rescue, energy, remote sensing and mapping, as well as wildlife protection, etc.
DJI invested 1.6 billion yuan in Shenzhen to build the new headquarters, “Sky City”. In 2017, DJI invited international interior design tenders. HALLUCINATE has been selected as one of the two finalists from more than 100 architecture and interior design firms worldwide.

Adopting the Zero-G design concept, Hallucinate tries to integrate the concepts of information technology and installation art into the project. A lightweight and floating spacial impression is presented through the thoughtful design of interior areas such as the lobby, exhibition hall and flight test area.
▼汉诺森设计以“零重力”核心概念，提出“信息”、“思考”、“进化”等几个关键词。With the core concept Zero-G, HALLUCINATE promoted several keywords such as message, thinking and evolution.
In a fully transparent lobby with height of 9M, HALLUCINATE sets up a multimedia installation art consisting of roughly 1,400 pieces of 250*250mm customized LCD screens up above viewers’eyes. The LCD screens are supported by lightweight metal structure.
The data and information from various fields of the world gathered by the DJI drones are transformed into “pixels”through image derivation, which are presented in the matrix LCD screen of the lobby. It is not a conventional lobby design. HALLUCINATE tries to construct corporation spirit and character through the powerful information processing and delivering design, to convey the technological achievements of DJI and its vision for the future.
The dynamic image data composed of modules can be displayed in separated screens or in full screen. It mimics a miniature real world, which is telling an epic story about people interacting with cities, countryside, nature, animals and plants, and communities.
Flight test area design
Flight test is not only a simple operation, but also an in-depth experience between testers and machines. People are always thinking inside of the box, and resist jumping out of it. For a high-technology corporation like DJI, it is especially important to think broadly.
HALLUCINATE’s design idea was inspired by a soft “capsule”. The “capsule’s”outer layer is wrapped with elastic polyester fibers to isolate the original building structure. Only lightings are allowed to pass through the capsule. It keeps the tester and drone in an undisturbed space. The skylight at the top of the “capsule”allows the drone to fly out of the building. With the assistance of the flying drone, tester is able to “pry into”a broader view.
Exhibition hall design
When the victory of AI power signified by Alpha Go strongly attracted the society’s attention to man-machine wars, we realized the universality and urgency of evolutionary issues. In many science fictions, the autonomy of the machine is also a recurring topic. Some people believe that there is a relationship between life and technology. Therefore, in the design of the exhibition hall, HALLUCINATE applies the conceptual design idea of the most technical advanced “organism”.
Inspired by cell structure, the display rack is filled with cone-shaped “cell display platforms”. Each neatly arranged platform is used to display drones’components and parts.
In the design of another exhibition hall, HALLUCINATE uses the concept of paper to promote the scattered and floating design ideas. The floating “paper”can display various DJI products from different periods, or other important exhibits.
The future seems coming at a faster rate. Human beings experienced the steam-powered machine in 18thcentury and the electric motor in 19thcentury. Now the computer and internet are changing our life and living behavior fundamentally. Nowadays, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, unmanned aerial vehicles, and VR/AR/MR technologies are largely integrated into our daily-life. Social activities such as consumption, social communication, education, and entertainment also generate new patterns and relationships. For DJI, advanced intelligence, creativity and evolutions are inevitable spirits. HALLUCINATE is trying to deliver a design idea in tune with DJI’s culture.
