Appreciation towards Atelier LiveMore for providing the following description:

随着国家实行全面二孩政策，越来越多的青年夫妇逐步迎来多个孩子的家庭生活。立木设计研究室一直致力于打破N室N厅的桎梏，研究适应时代发展的人居空间，我们期望通过一系列疑难杂症个案的探索，使家宅能够回归日常与真实。1992年，10岁的韦谦以一幅“画故乡”拿下海峡两岸中华少年宫书画比赛金奖，一时间，少年才子，意气风发。时光飞逝，26年后的韦谦又一次将故乡桂林“画”进远方，画到上海嘉定的“湖畔”公寓里。

With the implementation of two-child policy, more and more young couples are living in families of more than one child in contemporary cities. L&M Design Lab has been committed to breaking the shackles of N bedroom and N living-room and promoting habitat space in line with contemporary development. Through a series of complex cases, we are making home house returning to everyday-life and truth. 10-year-old talented child Wei Qian won the gold prize of cross-Strait Chinese youth painting and calligraphy competition with a painting of his hometown in 1992. After 26 years, he once again brings his hometown Guilin into a painting, which is his new apartment in Jiading, Shanghai.

二胎夫妇、三代家庭。魔都新房、连线故乡。房子的过去是一套四房一厅的精装交付公寓，巨大的客厅是建筑设计诗意的留白，厅大而房小，无奈之下显得冷清。业主韦谦和刘媛夫妇期望在这里能有两个孩子自由活动的天地，更能有家乡桂林的山水形神。

Families of three generations with two young child. New apartment in connect with hometown. The house used to be a hardcover delivery apartment with four-bedroom and one-living-room. The big living room is a poetic blank in former design, thus leading to the contrast between big living-room and small bedroom. Wei Qian and Liu Yuan hope that there would be enough space for two children to play games while reflecting the charm of their hometown’s native landscape.

设计首先要打破的，是50m²大客厅带来的距离感。于是我们用一片6米长的【墙】在客厅里画了座“山”：山上有平台和阶梯，山下有洞穴和球海，山前有延展的吧台和呼啸的滑梯，山后还有躲躲藏藏的猫猫洞和望天的吊桥。在这座只有20m²的山上，五个形态各异的洞口描摹着山水的形神，当每天“翻山越岭、爬树钻洞”成为一种常态，原先空旷客厅被孩子的欢声笑语填满。

Firstly, we should break the distance sense of a living-room of 50 square meters with a wall of 6 meters like mountain in Guilin city, on the top of which is platforms and steps and on the bottom is caves and ball-sea, while in the front is extended bar and roaring slide and in the back is cat-cave and drawbridge.On the wall of 20 square meters, there are five caves of different shapes to simulate landscape. The formerly empty living-room is filled with families’ happiness after the climbing and crossing has been their everyday life.

客厅侧的【墙】上除了形态各异的洞口，还有一道集合了楼梯和滑梯的弧线，这也是设计特意引入的环绕式路径：爬上楼梯、滑下滑梯、在海洋球池中嬉戏、从沙发后的洞口钻出来或跑回楼梯再来一组运动。

There is an arc of stairs and slides on the wall, which is also circumferential path for climbing the stairs, sliding down the slide, playing in ocean pool, digging out the hole and then getting back to the start.

【墙】虽有趣，但单一的路径也难免使人疲倦，于是我们在墙上飞架起一座玻璃和绳网的桥。这就为爬上楼梯后的活动增加了可能：除了滑下滑梯，还能穿过廊桥，钻过洞口，像人猿泰山般滑下缆绳，再躲进猫猫洞里睡上一觉。【墙】的动作斩断的不仅是尺度上的疏离，还有超大空间里隐私缺失的尴尬。吧台、楼梯、台阶、滑梯、平台、廊桥、树洞、吊椅等等，这一系列微小日常的空间像是海绵里的空隙，容纳着整个家庭活动的无限可能。当游戏时，【墙】是道具、是舞台；当安静时，【墙】是怀抱、是港湾。

Since single path will inevitably make the families tired, we also design a bridge with glass and wire mesh, adding moving lines of going down the slide, getting across the corridor bridge, digging out the hole, sliding down the rope and hiding in a cat-cave.The wall not only breaks the alienation of spatial scale, but also makes up for the embarrassment of privacy. Small everyday spaces such as counters, stairs, steps, slides, platforms, galleries, holes and hanging chairs together accommodate the infinite possibilities of all family members’ activities like voids in a sponge. The wall is the stage and prop when they play games, while being the embrace and harbor when they relax themselves.

如果说客厅的改造是整套公寓的“题眼”，解决之后，摧枯拉朽，一马平川。那剩余每个房间的“小修小补”靠的则是设身处地的体贴和无微不至的细腻。比如，在不足5m²的儿童房里，一分为二，上寝下居，学习玩耍休息生活一应俱全。

The renovation of living-room is the key of interior design, which solves the core problem. Small renovation of the remaining rooms relies on considerate and meticulous. We divided the children’s bedroom of 5 square meters into two parts, the top is bedroom and the bottom is living room for Small Wei to play and rest.

比如，考虑身处时尚行业的韦谦、刘媛夫妇大量的收纳需求，设计在原本并不宽裕的主卧中神奇地变出了两个独立衣帽间，又将一个厕所改为了储藏室，为未来收纳做了充分的预留。

For example, we fit two separate cloakrooms in former main bedroom and change washroom into a storage room as full reservation for future acceptance for these couple working in fashion industry.

从韦谦小时候在漓江踩水的回忆中获得灵感，我们从桂林空运来石板与鹅卵石，使得在卫生间里，也平添了几分乡愁。

Inspired by treading on the Lijiang River in the owner’s childhood, we use flagstones and cobblestones from Guilin city in the washroom for their homesickness.

韦谦、刘媛夫妇在软装阶段的深度参与使这个项目显得更为有趣，他们都受过优质的美术教育且正在从事时尚工作。照片记录的是这个“家”在建成时的瞬间，而这个尚未完成的“家”会在他们的双手下，变得一件真正的艺术品，被记录下来的除了他们的画作、展品，还有生活的痕迹。

The couple will work deep in soft decoration, which makes this project very interesting since thy are well educated in art and engaged in fashion. All the photographs have recorded the moment the “home” was built, however, the incomplete “home” would become a true work of art in their hands by keeping their paintings, exhibits and traces of everyday life.
