占地106,000平方尺的康涅狄格州斯坦福德magnet 小学获得了LEED银牌认证。整个小学拥有四个教育示范的环保板块:被学生积极利用的覆盖率达到50%以上的屋顶花园;有码头能观察到雨水自然过滤过程的雨水花园;一个埋在地下的,对雨水径流进行进行存储再用于植物灌溉的水处理系统;展示“生态能源”自给自足的风力发电机。此外这个小学还拥有其它一系列的低能耗的设备:比如low-E玻璃,低耗水冲洗装置。

The new 106,000 sq ft elementary magnet school in Connecticut features a LEED Silver design, a rain screen exterior and four prominent environmental demonstration components for educational purpose: 50% of the roofing is intensively planted and designed for active use by students; a rain garden with observation dock demonstrates the natural filtration process of rain water on site, a large holding tank below ground illustrates how stormwater run-off can be used onsite to reduce fresh water consumption for irrigation and downstream demands on water treatment systems; a wind-turbine located at the high point will demonstrate the harnessing of ‘free-energy’. In addition to the environmental demonstration features the design earns LEED points for: a high albedo roof for the remainder of the facility; bathrooms and locker rooms use low-flow and low-flush fixtures; ice storage to reduce energy demands during peak hours and low-e glazing along with occupancy sensors and daylight dimming will reduce energy costs and consumption.

该小学容纳了周边地区大约600名学生。学校的场地前身是宝洁公司的研发用地,用地性质可归为废弃的污染工业用地。景观建筑师妙手回春,在棕地上打造出四季景色变化的美丽神态校园景观。师生们穿梭往来于此,生态环保的理念也深入人心。

The adaptive reuse of a brownfield site (formerly an R&D facility for Proctor and Gamble) also reduced waste in the landfills by using demolition debris as a sub-base in the onsite roads and parking surfaces. The former Clairol Headquarters building foundation was preserved and used for the foundation of the stormwater retention center.  This rectangular form is embraced by the shape of the building allowing for rainwater to be collected on the roof and drained into a source point in this outdoor laboratory space.  A series of bridges allow for students to walk through and engage directly with the evolving landscape throughout the seasons.  The school integrates an agricultural area with a vermiculture farm in the overall design integrating cycles of food consumption into the educational process. The school is designed to serve 600 students in grades K-8 and will draw students from surrounding towns.
