MAD no doubt is one of the most recognized architectural practices in China and worldwide. Every year, MAD receives countless job and internship applications. To be able to work at MAD will definitely enrich your career as even though the people working here might have been lucky, but are undeniably outstanding. What could possibly be on the minds of the MAD interns?

MAD无疑是中国最受瞩目的建筑师事务所，同时在世界范围内也受到极高的关注。MAD每年都收到来自全世界不计其数的工作申请和实习申请。能够进入MAD学习和工作一段时间，职业生涯无疑会变得精彩丰富，在这里的人们，也许是幸运的，但肯定是优秀的。在MAD工作的实习生们，他们脑子里天马星空的想法是什么样的?

Who is your favorite architect? Why?
As I was studying, I was interested in many architects. Now, from the view of style, Iadmire Thom Mayne and Morphosis most, since their works contain considerable complexity, anddifferent kinds of exciting spaces, tectonic and metaphor could be recognized from the formitself. From the view of architecture thoughts, I appreciate Aldo Rossi’s topic on Matterand Energy most, which is a thinking pattern of Dynamics. It reflects on the howarchitecture and other things in the world connect together and how they promote each other,that is to say, it’s rather an evolutionary or generative state than a simple design.

What is the major characteristic of your current school’s education?
I am from Wuhan University, which has two main features. One is its free atmosphere, whichmeans you have freedom to do the research on the field you are interested in, and even someromantic trails are permitted. The other one is what makes my university different fromother technological universities, its comprehensiveness, which means you can shape yourselfin various ways. It provides rich resources in Philosophy, Economics, Natural Science andSocial Science. I really appreciate it.

What have you gained during the MAD internship?
In Chinese architecture industry， MAD is a controversial firm, and I had ever doubted aboutMAD before I came here. Since I came here to be an intern, I found that MAD has quite aserious attitude toward all the projects, which definitely exceeds 90% designers in China.Being a student, I think holding an open mind is essential, and never judge roughly with asingle preference or first impression. To explore the truth by ourselves is much better thanto parrot what others say.

What are your thoughts and feelings upon Chinese Architecture and the environment?Any suggestion?
This topic is too big to response in a few words. But any way we all expect a betterarchitecture environment to promote the development of this field and our culture.
What is your dream?Make all the complex things simple.

What would you do if you were not an architect?
Maybe a poet or an actor

What is your dream project?
I always view design should be responsive, so without certain context, it is hard to tell mydream project. If have to say, maybe a design could bear all the means I want to express.

What is your favorite project in your portfolio? Why?
To some extent, I hate them all. Because I always try to absorb more things, learn somethingother than architecture and combine them together. As a result, all the works in thisportfolio could just stand the fragment of my thinking and respect inclination of design ina period. Sometime, using architecture to express all those thoughts is really challenge, somy favorite project will come soon and be included in this portfolio as the end of mystudent stage.

最喜欢的建筑师是谁？为什么？
在学习的过程中，我对许多建筑师感兴趣过。对现在的我来说，从建筑风格方面，我最欣赏的是Thom Mayne的Morphosis，他们的设计可以包含可观的复杂性，形态本身可以识别出空间，建构，隐喻等的多样性，从我个人的角度，觉得这是一种更加高级的建筑形式。如果从建筑理论方面而言，我很喜欢Aldo Rossi的matter and energy这个topic，因为这其实是一种 动力学 的思考方式，是对于建筑与其他事物间关系，以及之间互相推动作用的一种思考，而不是简简单单的一步到位的设计，更加近似于一种evolutionary或者说generative的状态。

你所在学校的教育特点？
我来自于武汉大学，我想我的学校有两个最主要的特点，一个是自由，它给你很大的自由空间，你有时间来研究自己感兴趣的方向，并且这样的氛围可以允许做许多浪漫主义色彩的尝试。另一个，我想与众多工科院校不同的是，这样一个综合性大学里，你可以有无数种方式来塑造自己，哲学，经济学，自然科学，社会科学等等充裕的资源可以供你汲取。

你在MAD实习最大的收获是什么？
我想在中国建筑界，MAD是一个备受争议的事务所，我在来到MAD之前也曾经抱着怀疑的态度。但是在来这里之后，我想MAD对待建筑的认真态度是远远超过90%国内的建筑设计者的，我觉得作为学生也应该抱着一种开放的思维，不要单单因为形态的偏好，而采取一种先入为主的态度做出武断的判断。与其人云亦云，不如自己来探寻真相。

你对中国建筑以及环境有怎样的感触？建议是什么？
这是一个太过于广阔的话题，三言两语很难说清楚，有些问题是社会经济发展到一定时候所产生的悖论与博弈的结果，很难能一两条建议使之尽如人意。不过不管怎么说，我想我们都期望能有一个良好的建筑设计环境，来促使这个行业的发展。

你的梦想是什么？
把所有复杂的事情简单化

你如果不当建筑师会选择什么职业？
诗人或者是演员

你梦想中的项目是什么样的？
我觉得设计总是有针对性的，如果架空语境，很难描述理想中的项目。如果非说不可，也许是一个能将一种单纯的情怀完全融化其中的设计。

在自己的作品集中，你最喜欢的作品是什么？为什么？
从某种程度上而言，对这些设计都不太满意，我一直试图吸收，学习更多的东西，将他们与设计联系在一起，所以这本作品集里面的东西更多的是反映我阶段性的设计倾向和思想的碎片，有时候东西太多余庞杂，想要整合在一起做一个总结性的东西的难度就更高了。我想接下来再做一个完整的总结性的设计，我想那样一个设计会让我很满意。

 

Consanguinity Community

这个设计位于中国浙江省宁波市冠佩村。整个项目位于山水之间，远离城市喧嚣。本项目旨在研究一种居住建筑形式来回应一系列的社会问题，试图用空间的手段来回应《独生子女》政策带来的对于复杂社会的影响。当然，单单凭借一个项目，或者“建筑学”来试图“解决”一个社会问题是难以完全实现的，所以作为一个学生时期的作业，我想其至多能算是一种形态学上的回应，或者说一种有益的思考方式。

 

Cubism in Architecture

本设计位于武汉大学校内，东湖之滨，珞珈山旁，周边是文科建筑群。本建筑服务于周边的建筑，提供一个研究，交流，以及一些行政办公室。整个设计，主要是对于空间的探索与设计，借由立体主义的一些基本原理原则，来进行一个建筑学的设计与研究。

Complex in Historical District

本设计位于历史文化街区的边缘，整个设计创造的综合体空间，试图在1，周边居民与外来游客，2历史街
区与新建高层建筑，3周边的市立美术馆与周边的小吃街等等对立因素中寻求空间的平衡点。

 

Research Works

这个部分主要是一些结合复杂系统理论的思考和表达，有对于形态学的研究，（ The Least Discernable
Differences）有对对于分形几何系统的实验（Koch Fractal Experiments）有对于系统干预可视化的研
究（Chaos Visualization）有对于过程科学与建筑结合的研究Design [the process of Design]。这些
泛建筑的研究其实对我本人来说非常有意思。
