Natalie Christensen lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico (USA) where she is inspired to look for psychological metaphors in commonplace architecture and streetscapes. She shoot with a digital camera and she does this nearly everyday. Natalie has spent much of her career as a psychotherapist, and she sees photography as an extension of that work. Both have called her to explore what is hidden from view, those aspects of self or environment that we may prefer to ignore. She suspects it is our nature to avoid what is difficult or painful, but sometimes she gets a glimpse of the sublime in these places. When she finds it, it feels like she has discovered gold. She does not go anywhere special to make her photographs; instead she find her images around shopping malls, apartment complexes and office parks. Natalie dismantle these scenes to color fields, geometry and shadow. The places she frequents for her images are probably not what people visualize when they think of Santa Fe, a city with a carefully cultivated image. While she enjoys seeing the beauty in this city, she prefers to shoot in locations that may be viewed as uninteresting or even visually off-putting. This is exciting and challenging for her, to see the metaphorical hiding in plain sight.
