METROPOLIS, the new furniture collection designed by Giacomo Moor for Post Design, is a system composed of seven limited edition pieces (table, desk, wardrobe, console, bookcase, horizontal and vertical wall system) – each numbered and signed by the designer.

Precious walnut wood volumes, framed in black-varnished iron reticular structures, evolve through space in increasingly different ways: they outline architectural shapes that, in addition to responding to specific demands, evoke archetypal metropolis skylines, crystallized over time and locked into the collective imagination.

The geometrical strictness of the design matches, in a sort of delicate balance, with the warm materialness of walnut wood, in a rather intense synthesisthat emphasizes the significance of wood and its handcrafted manufacturing.

The furniture collection does not explicitly show its features, but it hangs suspended in an ambiguous dimension, inviting the user to interactively discover small unexpected secret compartments, drawers and trap doors.

This subtle discrepancy in the form-function relationship sets the system free from a strictly referential dimension and gives it an enigmatic, evocative and poetic elegance.

ABOUT GIACOMO MOOR

Born in Milan, Italy, in 1981. After high school he studied design at Politecnico University in Milan, where he graduated with Beppe Finessi, on a thesis about wood, published in Abitare (Valuable Defects: Cabinetmaking between sculpture and design, 2009); in the meantime he worked in an artisan shop. He learned the wood-working trade and once he graduated he reconciled his newly concluded studies with his passion for wood and its elaboration. He designs and creates unique, custom pieces and limited series for private clients, architects and companies in his workshop in via Padova, in addition to collaborating with various design brands such as EnvironmentFurniture, Ilide, Memphis. He lives in Milan with his partner and his two daughter Viola and Costanza and his son Tommaso.
