融入自然的生活变得越来越引人关注，人与自然的矛盾与融合，也正体现在了人类生产活动对于自然的破坏和改造。如何用绿色的概念，在不破坏自然环境的前提下设计建造一个临时的最小人居单元，或者说这个临时居住单元就像种子一样，它发芽、生长、枯萎、凋谢这个循环就是回归自然的过程。这样一个人居单元的设计就变得非常具有挑战性。
为了激发全球的创意人才对于此问题的研究，马清运院长正在举办一场设计竞赛，这个竞赛的缩写就叫SEED，中文翻译是种子，全称是Solar Embodied Environmental Design。
这个SEED人居单元可以容纳一到两个人，并且能够在户外环境下自给自足，使用期限过后SEED将可以自然分解而不对环境造成污染及破坏。
马清运院长对于SEED的含义是这样说的，“我用Solar Embodied Environmental Design这个名称来启发设计师们返回来研究最根本的居住场所。SEED最小人居单元竞赛的目的，就是要找到居住与自然最大限度和谐相处的可能性，就像种子与自然的微妙关系。”对于胜出的竞赛方案，马院长希望其能够在自然环境中的紧急情况下使用，或者能够在野外旅行时使用，而不会对自然产生影响。
本次竞赛是由@ALL举办的一次全球范围竞赛，竞赛开始时间为北京时间2015年4月20日，参赛者提交参赛作品的截至日期为2015年7月31日。最终的获奖作品将由网络投票产生，获奖名单将于2015年8月4号公布在@ALL的网站上。竞赛的网址为http://www.spamall.com.cn/portfolio/seed-competition_seed01/ 。
本次竞赛鼓励不同领域、不同知识背景的参赛者交叉协作，最终6个胜出的参赛作品将会进一步与专业领域的科学家、艺术家、设计师、发明家和加工方等协作发展为最终的方案，并将在中国及美国夏威夷进行建造。投票得出的前50名参赛作品，@ALL将会进行全球巡展并且出版书籍。

▼SEED竞赛 SEED Competition
Sustainable living is becoming more vital to our future. When it comes to temporary housing, making it environmentally friendly is even more important.
In search for the answer to this problem, Qingyun Ma, renowned Chinese architect, educator and creator, has launched a design competition through his organization spamALL. The project, known as SEED® for Future, is a competition for a small, light and impermanent habitat.
Envisioned as an outdoor living unit, self-sufficient and independent to nature, SEED will provide housing for the short term, able to dissolve through natural processes once the housing is no longer needed. It is geared for outdoor use primarily for one to two people.
SEED stands for solar embodied environmental design. Ma, known for his careful word selection, says the acronym and what it stands for is intentional. “I selected it to inspire designers to search for the basis of human habitat,” says Ma. “The design should find equilibrium between individual livability and ecological sustainability, celebrating the moment between human intervention and nature in the most beautiful and precious way, as does a seed.” Ma’s goal is for the winning designs to be used for temporary housing during crises, as well as tourism type events such as outdoor festivals.
The competition, which is open to anyone in the world, launches this week with a deadline of July 31, 2015, for the submission of designs. The winners will be chosen by popular vote on the spamALL website and will be announced August 4, 2015.
Ma also is encouraging cooperation: the finalists and winners will work with other groups – including scientists, artists, engineers, industrialists and other creative citizens of the world – to develop the ideas for build-out. Six of the top designs will be built in China and Hawaii, and designs from 50 of the finalists will be curated for worldwide exhibition and published in a book.
