An Intuitive Search for New Forms, Materials and Ways of Making
During Dutch Design Week 2026, Teun Zwets celebrated the opening of his new atelier with NEW STUDIO SUPER SHOW, unveiling 50 CHAIRS, 50 NEW COLLECTIONS. He also presented new work at FORM Designlab at Piet Hein Eek.

在“NEW STUDIO SUPER SHOW”中,Teun Zwets呈现了50把完全不同的椅子。
For NEW STUDIO SUPER SHOW, Teun Zwets presented 50 completely different chairs. He follows his intuition from one design to the next, searching for ideas that can only emerge through making. Since early 2026, Teun Zwets has been working from his new studio in Eindhoven. For Dutch Design Week, he filled his wood and metal workshop with 50 new chairs; fifty completely different designs that he sees as 50 new collections in the making.

50 At Once
After two years spent largely building his existing collection, Teun wanted to find out what else might emerge. So, instead of designing one new collection, he decided to start 50 at once. Each chair is an opportunity to try something different: a new material, an unusual construction, another form or a technique he has never used before.

The work happens fast and intuitively. An idea does not need to be fully figured out before he starts building it. It is through making that Teun discovers whether there is something worth pursuing. The result is a huge range of possible directions. Some chairs will remain one-offs; others may become the starting point for something he develops further. And somewhere among the 50 might be the collection he will work on for years to come.

Different Worlds
On the first floor, the showroom was transformed into a series of different worlds, bringing together new work, existing collections, art and installations. New pieces from the Splitted collection are presented, including a corner sofa and an oval table.

For one of these worlds, Teun collaborates with artist Merijn Kavelaars, known for paintings and installations filled with bold lines, vibrant colours and organic shapes. His work often moves beyond the canvas to take over entire spaces. For DDW, Merijn uses part of the showroom as his canvas. A painting is framed in a Splitted frame made by Teun, while a chair and sideboard become part of the same installation. Their work connects through an intuitive approach, allowing material, form and chance to shape the outcome.

Elsewhere, another part of the showroom was built entirely from cardboard, creating yet another world. Rather than functioning as a traditional furniture display, the showroom becomes a place where visitors can step from one world into the next.

The Opening of Teun Zwets’ New Studio
On Saturday, 17 October, Teun officially opened the doors to his new studio with an evening that brought his design practice to life in a uniquely personal way.At the heart of the celebration was the transformation of 50 NEW CHAIRS, 50 NEW COLLECTIONS, an installation presenting 50 chairs, each representing a new collection. Guests arrived to a welcome drink before exploring Teun’s new atelier, showroom and the installation, with the chairs displayed on two long plinths.

As the evening unfolded, the installation took on a new purpose. The two plinths were brought together to form one long dining table, seating 50 guests on the very chairs they had just admired. Dressed with an oversized tablecloth, flickering candles, generous centrepieces styled by Oogenlust with pieces of the HKLiving x Teun Zwets collection, the setting became an intimate celebration of design, food and togetherness.Following a welcome speech by Teun, glasses were raised to mark the opening. Dinner featured one of his favourite dishes from childhood, adding a personal touch to the occasion, before dessert was served straight from an ice cream truck. And as the final course gave way to the party, the chairs were lifted onto the table, transforming the space once again. It was a fitting finale to an evening that captured the spirit of Teun’s work: design that goes beyond the object, creating experiences that bring people together.

FORM Designlab的Splitted Wall Works
Splitted Wall Works at FORM Designlab
In addition to the presentation at Teun’s new studio, another presentation took place at FORM Designlab, at Piet Hein Eek, where Teun has exhibited previously.Teun Zwets presented new wall works from the Splitted collection, including new mirrors, medicine cabinets, shelves and other wall objects, alongside existing pieces and new work created with photographer Jeroen van der Wielen.

Teun Zwets’ Splitted Collection starts with splitting wooden beams with an axe. The resulting cracks, grain and texture of the wood remain visible and become the starting point for the furniture. Chairs, tables, cabinets and other objects emerge from this process, each with its own form and character. The collection is handmade and finished with a high-gloss lacquer.
