I have grown up with pet cats, and always seem to meet cats everywhere I go. I started painting cats while travelling in Turkey because they crowd the streets over there. My Cat Sketches are a personal project of mine. I am using it as a way to connect with people via Instagram, where I get a lot of requests for pet portraits. It’s an experiment of sorts, to understand how using social media you can connect with people all over the world, and be commissioned to do work for them using essentially a photo uploading app. Cats as a subject is extremely popular on Instagram and every day I am finding new accounts for people who document their cats. Now I am almost exclusively using it to showcase my painting and not my personal world.
As for cat paintings, I am inspired by Andy Warhol’s cat paintings. I use drawing ink for my paintings.
I paint my cats with drawing ink.
I am a qualified graphic designer living in Melbourne, Australia. I work as a freelancer from my studio in China Town. I have two of my own cats Max and Pippa.
