Monsoon Library
The name pretty much sums it up. If you’re still reading this text, then I’ll elaborate. The library, located in Phoenix, Arizona, seeks to celebrate a unique meteorological phenomenon of the desert southwest – summer monsoon rainstorms. The roof stretches to the site’s boundary maximizing an undulating surface for harvesting the summer rains. The water is conveyed through glazed gutters (no, it will never leak) that bring the patrons inside into contact, more intimately with the natural events outside.

这是位于亚利桑那州凤凰城的图书馆，处于沙漠西南，具有独特的气候现象，夏季季风暴雨。屋顶一直延伸到边界最远处，其起伏的表面为了收集夏季雨水。水通过绝不泄露的玻璃水槽，通过室内，让人们更密切的与大自然联系。
Actors Theatre
An intimate, 250 seat drama theatre originated from two “big ideas”
One, the building’s organization should re-interpret the language of the theatre company. For example, flying sets become a flying house volume. Catwalks from the theatre become raised circulation paths, and the traditional Proscenium becomes the super structure that holds everything together.
Two, the house should have continuous bench seating rather than the typical armrest models.

Skyway
FYI, after re-considering this proposal, I have concluded that the elevated skyway ought to be an open-air horizontal park (no, not the highline, but yes, basically the highline). So close your eyes and replace the cyan with a soft green of your choice. Bang, urban park, accessible to office workers in the existing towers. Maybe I’ll re-submit it next year.

Micro-Macro Block
More like a concrete Pringles chip than a block, this material-intensive studio’s aim was developing a full-scale prototype for an architectural element. My partner and I chose to build a screen wall by casting several dozen fabric-reinforced Pringles and bolting them together, with elegant PVC fittings we custom built.

ACE Campus
The non-profit conservation corps. and former employer of mine, ACE, was interested in designing a corporate headquarters in Northern Arizona. The project explore the site in section, at one moment you are underground, and at another, you’re in the tree canopy. Critics derided the Ewok Village, but tell me you wouldn’t want to sleep like a monkey among the trees. That’s what I though!

Holocaust Memorial
I felt guilty laughing at this competition, given the sensitive nature of the program. For those of you who have been to the Jersey shore boardwalk, you can relate. The site doesn’t exactly scream, “remember the Jews.” But hey, it was an open international competition so I submitted. The image is practically undecipherable, I know, but I was hoping it would draw intrigue. I guess not. Basically, it’s a series of canted planes that support a ramp, a ramp to nowhere, except a view of the ocean.
