Aedas Interiors designed and completed the Twr y Felin Art Hotel in St. Davids in the beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in Wales, UK. It is the third regeneration project for Retreats Group aiming to rejuvenate the Welsh community of St Davids by restoring and transforming historical and much-loved buildings into luxury boutique hotels.

Twr y Felin Hotel adapts the Group’s core ‘Modernity in an old fabric’ and has developed a signature style for the brand through bespoke and exquisite hand-crafted furnishings with an overall luxurious décor that establishes a timeless quality and a sense of exclusive sanctum in response to the ancient local culture and history.

Re-established from a historical windmill tower first built in 1802, Twr y Felin Hotel is the first ‘Art Hotel’ in Wales, designed with a contemporary flair and over 100 pieces of original artworks from local and international artists including Brendan Burns, Adam Buick, Geoff Yeomans, Dan and Amanda Wright, Catrin Webster, Phil Ashcroft, Xenz, Remi Rough, Mr Jago, Pure Evil and Harry Adams. Most of the art is specially commissioned and inspired by the St. Davids peninsula and Pembrokeshire to provide a unique experience of arts and culture. The hotel possesses spectacular 360 degree views of the St. Davids Peninsula, offering 19 en-suite bedrooms, 2 suites, a restaurant and a delicate gallery lounge.

‘We worked with the existing unusually shaped and sized room configurations and considered the preservation of original architectural elements including the bronze traceried windows and the original wood and stone flooring. The designs drew strongly on the relationship from the exterior landscape to the interior space with the use of colour palette and textures which were inspired by the outdoor setting of Wales,’ said Greg Farrell, Executive Director at Aedas Interiors who is based in Hong Kong. The hotel is externally restored to its original grandeur and juxtaposed with the luscious modern bespoke interiors.

The re-establishment of the historic property in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park has brought an influx of high-end tourists to the town and created many jobs for the local work force. All restoration work was delivered by the local workers of Wales. The design team also managed to source as many materials locally as possible. All the bespoke-designed furniture was hand-made by the award-winning furniture maker, Channels, to the highest standards. Artwork was commissioned to embody the cultural reference and heritage of Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Hypoallergenic and chemical-free materials and fabrics were used in the interiors. VOC free paints and wood oils were carefully selected together with hypoallergenic guest amenities to ensure all guests enjoy the sea air and a complete rest from the toxins of the city.
