Starting with the idea that simulations can often be more compelling and impactful than the real, Shadow Curtains simulate shadows of lush foliage emerging through warm sunlight from an imagined window or terrace. Shadows are conditional to their context, such as environment, light source, time of day, variety and placement of obstructions, etc. This ephemeral condition is made permanent in the form of a curtain; a product that can be situated where no such condition of light and shadow would otherwise exist. Shadows, themselves projected simulations, are here simulated once more. An image of actual foliage would be unconvincing and certainly acknowledged as fake, but an image of a shadow can still hold true; copies can be recopied without losing efficacy.
