设计工作室Studio Monana、产品品牌Monana®创始人何鲜发布了作品 “耍的灯”。此款彩色雕花版皮影台灯，是Studio Monana的固有研究项目 “老铁设计公司”的设计之一。

Founder of design office Studio Monana and design-led brand Monana® , Xian He, has launched “Play The Lamp”. This special edition of the colorful carving desk lamp is part of the research project “Co-Designer Lab” of Studio Monana.

“老铁设计公司”，是工作室从2021年开始进行的民间工艺研究项目。以短视频平台为源头，通过短视频，我们了解到一些中国传统手工艺的制作者。我们会到他们的城市进行拜访，学习制作工艺，最终一起完成设计协作。

“Co-Designer Lab”  is a folk craftmanship research project conducted by the studio from 2021. Taking the short video platform as the source, through short videos, where we learned about some of the craft makers by their posts. We visited them in their cities to learn the crafting process and eventually work together to complete the design collaboration.

皮影戏是中国家喻户晓的传统艺术，在我国有超过两千年的历史了。皮影是匠⼈用兽⽪做成的角色戏偶，其制作工序复杂。兽皮首先需经特殊工艺洗制，使其质地坚固；然后由匠⼈为其手工雕刻上意义丰富的图案；最后需要手工填色，并在关节处做拼接处理，使皮影戏偶能动作灵活。

The Shadow Play is a well-known traditional folk art, with a history of over 2,000 years in China.The shadow puppets are made from animal skins and the production of puppets is complex. First, the rawhide is processed by special washing techniques to make it sturdy and non-deformable; Then, craftsmen carve meaningful patterns to define different characters; Finally, the puppets were carefully painted with color and the joints were connected to move lively.

表演时，艺人们在幕布后面支起一盏灯，操纵人偶，在打击乐器和弦乐配合下，⽤当地流行的曲调讲述故事。

Accompanied by folk music and local dialogue, performers sit behind the screen with an Illuminated light, manipulate the puppets by holding sticks and interpret the story plot with dancing shadows.

在一次翻阅资料时，皮影制作工艺吸引了我们的注意。皮影从制作到使用，都和手部有深度的关联。如果要对这种工艺进行设计干预，我们希望保留这种手部的互动的感受，让它成为一件人们手边的道具。

Once, while researching the materials, the craft of shadow play making caught our attention. From the production to the use of the shadow play, there is a deep connection with the hand. If we were to intervene in this craftsmanship, we would like to preserve this interactive feeling and make it a prop for people’s hands.

最终，我们选择工作台灯，为这种古⽼艺术的美感和结构，找到了⼀个现代生活的功能落点。我们设计了两个棒状灯操作杆，引导使用者捏住它来转动灯体、调节灯光⻆度。设置这个与民艺人控制皮影相同的手势，是希望能唤起人们想到这门美丽的中国艺术。

Ultimately, we chose the desk lamp as a functional application for the aesthetics and logicalness of ancient art in modern living space. We designed two sticks to guide the user to squeeze the lever with hands to turn it and adjust the angle. This gesture, which is the same as that used by folk artists to control the shadow puppets, is set up to evoke thoughts of this beautiful Chinese Art.

我们去了一趟陕西宝鸡，专程拜访年轻的皮影非遗传承人赵少峰，刘美玲。陕西皮影的戏偶使用牛皮制作。经过淘洗、阴干、切割、上色等独有的工艺以后，这些牛皮具有了一定的韧性，且质地通透坚固。

基于此，我们将台灯所有的部件设计在一张平面的牛皮上。根据牛皮的特性，其通过弯折后可以做成具有结构力量的组件。当手艺匠人从这张平面上切割出元件后，我们将这些有图案的部件折叠成为灯架、弯折成为灯罩。

We traveled to Baoji City, Shaanxi Province, to visit Zhao Shaofeng and Liu Meiling, a pair of young Intangible Cultural Inheritors of shadow puppets. Shaanxi shadow puppets are made from rawhide of cattle. After washing, drying, cutting, coloring, and other unique processes, these hides have a certain resilience, and the texture is translucent and sturdy.

Based on this, we designed all the components of the lamp on a flat hide plate. According to the characteristics of the treated hide, it can be made into components with structural strength by bending. After the craftsman cuts out the components from this plane, we take these patterned parts and fold them to be the lampstand, and bend them to be the lampshade.

我们将传统皮影中的装饰元素，如穆桂英的剑花红缨，文臣裤腿上的海浪兽爪等排布在皮影部件上，由赵少峰老师进行雕刻后，刘美玲老师进行上色。将每个部件从设计完成的皮板上轻轻取下，搭配金属部件和灯线，即可制作成一盏桌面台灯。

我们希望通过这件日常化的作品，来轻巧地承载厚重的工艺和故事，让“耍的灯”成为向更多⼈介绍皮影的传统材料和工艺的机会；在光影的流转中，邀请人们走近这古老而美丽的艺术形式。

We lined up decorative elements from the traditional shadow puppets, such as Mu Guiying’s sword flower and red tassel, and the sea wave animal claws on Wenchen’s trouser legs, on the shadow parts, which were carved by Zhao Shaofeng and then colored by his wife, Liu Meiling. Gently remove each part from the finished board, paired with metal parts and lamp cord, a tabletop lamp is created.

We hope to delightfully carry the craftsmanship and story through this everyday object, making it an opportunity to introduce the traditional materials and craftsmanship of the shadow puppet to more people; inviting them to come closer to this ancient art form between the light and the shadow.
