Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec designed Oui, a series of four different and complementary outdoor sitting installations in the park of Kunsthal Aarhus. Oui derives from Urban Rveries, exhibition which presented in Rennes a repertoire or a intense research of new forms imaginable in very different urban situations. As Kunsthal Aarhus wished to redevelop with the architect Kristine Jensen its park and create an aperture outward, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec were asked to propose adapting this concept. This wish comes from the will to give more life and conviviality to the space in the city.

The installation takes the shape of large discs suited for sitting or reclining. Each installation is a circle platform made of galvanized steel. They appear to float above the ground, surrounding a tree. As a lighthouse they help to guide people into a warm and colored luminous place in the city. Both pieces concretize the dialogue or relationship between nature and people who are invited to rest and appreciate the seasons which pass in the shade of the trees.

One of platform is a large ring with a fireplace in its center. It becomes a place where people can gather together around the warm embers. The idea of taking fire to the heart of the city reminds us of gathering around bonfires. Contemplating the flames gives rise to moments of collective interaction and daydreaming.

Each sitting installation has its own use for every moment of the day or the evening. It can be used as a pedestal or a large collective bench and provide a welcoming place for relaxing, meeting and having conversation with the others.
