Defined shapes, soft contours and a delicate look are the key features of the new Maisa extendable table from Zoom by Mobimex. The designer Carlo Clopath, winner of the Swiss Federal Design Award, has created an unostentatious and emphatic solid wood table which expresses a passion for the material as well as great attention to detail in terms of craftsmanship.

With the MAISA table, which Carlo Clopath has designed for Zoom by Mobimex, the young and multi-award winning industrial designer from Graubünden, Switzerland has once again succeeded in creating a masterpiece. The simplicity of the function is logically reflected in the shape of the table – defined, calm contours give the table a subtle and delicate appearance. The legs and the traverse and longitudinal braces merge fluidly into one another and form a smooth, cohesive structure.

The unmistakeable look of MAISA is the result of a sophisticated construction. “The table is based on historical Chinese and also later Scandinavian typologies: two leg elements – legs and traverse brace – are connected to two longitudinal braces,” revealed Clopath, explaining his design concept.

To implement this idea, Carlo Clopath came close to reaching the limits of what is possible when working with solid wood. It took several months to adjust the angles and dimensions of the subframe to create a look that is as ethereal as possible, while still ensuring a robust construction. Starting with a basic thickness of 26 mm, the table legs were only thickened to 48 mm at the join to the traverse and longitudinal brace in order to guarantee stability.

The longitudinal edges of the solid wood table top, which is also 26 mm thick, taper into a semi-circular profile. The same radii are repeated at the ends of both of the table’s two longitudinal braces. These distinctive cross braces serve as guide rails on which the table top can slide to one side, while also providing space to store the extension panel. The easy-fit insert in lightweight design extends the table by 70 cm, thus creating four additional places.

MAISA is available as an extendable table or as a fixed-size model, either in heartwood ash, American walnut or oak. The extension panel is coated with FENIX NTM® and can be ordered in one of three different colours, all coordinated with the wood. In order to meet additional visual or practical requirements, the entire table top can also be fashioned in this extremely robust, high-quality nanotech material.

MAISA has been designed as a dining table but is equally suitable for use as a desk in a private spatial environment.
