“What if you put a cat in a fishbowl?”

▼设计概览，overview of the design

设计灵感来自于猫咪特有的行为活动和心里映射，猫咪的眼球结构对于隐藏在缝隙中的移动物体十分敏锐，如鱼缸中活动的鱼或者是阴影中闪烁的光斑，对他们具有极大的吸引力；另一方面猫咪在“洞形”空间中会感到安全和愉悦，并在其中自娱自乐；常会看到暴露在陌生环境下的猫咪会本能的迅速寻找遮蔽空间。于是，本设计试图结合猫咪所特有的两种属性和其熟悉的环境特点，为猫咪打造一个属于自己的“鱼缸”。

The design concept is inspired by the unique behavior and mental perception of cats. Cats’ eyes are susceptible to moving objects hidden in crevasses, such as moving fish in a fishbowl or flashing spots in a shadow, which attracts them greatly. On the other hand, cats can feel safe and happy in the “bowl” and amuse themselves in it. It is common to see cats who are exposed to unfamiliar environments instinctively seek shelter quickly. Therefore, this design attempts to combine the two unique attributes of the cat and familiar characteristics of its environment to create a fishbowl for the cat, which we call “Cat-Bowl”.

猫屋的表皮设计语言提取于中国传统符号：太极。其形态是由黑白两色的半圆形泪珠状曲线组成，称为黑白阴阳双鱼：白鱼为阳，黑鱼为阴。白鱼中间的黑眼睛和黑鱼之中的白眼睛，意味着阳中有阴，阴中有阳之理。因此，借用“黑白两鱼”的概念，为猫屋创造了由“鱼”环绕而成“虚实结合”的空间。

The inspiration for the form comes from the Chinese symbol Taiji, or more commonly known as yin-yang. The symbol itself is made up of two fish, white and black, and represents the dichotomy between opposite energies and how they are connected yet interdependent, just like the cat and fish. The fishes make up the form while the cat rests inside.

由于结构的特殊性，猫屋的的连接构件并没有采用垂直贯穿整体的传统做法，而是根据曲面弧度以及受力点的分析进行曲线连接，形成隐藏在木质表皮下另一层“动态结构表皮”，同时猫还可以通过木片之间的缝隙观察外面的世界。多样的出入口以及内部平台有利于猫咪在猫屋中自由的栖息，玩耍。

Due to the particularity of the structure, the joints of the “Cat-Bowl” do not stick through and connect the whole wood layers, instead strategically connect to the curvature and stress points to form the secondary “dynamic structural skin” behind the wooden skin. The layers of the structure are spaced apart to allow the cat to easily view outside the house while remaining safely hidden within it. Providing multiple entrances and internal platforms could also encourage cats to rest and play within the created space.

通过这个猫屋的设计，我们想把猫变成 “鱼” ， 让它们在 “鱼缸” 自由安全的观察世界。

Through our Cat-Bowl, we allow the cat to become the fish, giving the cat the freedom to see the world while being safely sheltered from it.
