MAD no doubt is one of the most recognized architectural practices in China and worldwide. Every year, MAD receives countless job and internship applications. To be able to work at MAD will definitely enrich your career as even though the people working here might have been lucky, but are undeniably outstanding. What could possibly be on the minds of the MAD interns?

MAD无疑是中国最受瞩目的建筑师事务所之一，同时在世界范围内也受到极高的关注。MAD每年都收到来自全世界不计其数的工作申请和实习申请。能够进入MAD学习和工作一段时间，职业生涯无疑会变得精彩丰富，在这里的人们，也许是幸运的，但肯定是优秀的。在MAD工作的实习生们，他们脑子里天马星空的想法是什么样的?

Who is your favourite architect? Why?
My favorite architect is Peter Eisenman. Eisenman considers architecture as a form of shock therapy which is classified as a deconstruction though he has refused to be tagged. Grid is one of his signatures especially in residential design. A lot of young architecture students often imitate this style but fail to express the design concept at a deeper level like Eisenman.

What is the major characteristic of your current school’s education?
It is difficult to define the major characteristic of my school’s education. Some professors would encourage us to do whatever we want; and other professors would like us to do exactly what they want. They are just suggestions. There is no right or wrong, It only depends on what students have interpreted.

What have you gained during the MAD internship?
I like the working atmosphere here. Undoubtedly a lot of interns come to MAD becauseof Ma but there is more exciting stuff to explore after working here.

What are your thoughts and feelings upon Chinese Architecture and the environment?Any suggestion?
It is a big question since there is a lot of controversy over the development of Architecture even in China. I adore Hutong in Beijing. MAD is located in a Hutong, and we are walking around
every noon. Modern architecture is magnificent but Hutong moves people. There are many so called official buildings. Ma once said design is no joke. It should be the symbol of future. Ma tries to make a statement in his own way, or he has been experiencing a different style for Chinese Architecture.

What is your dream?
I have had a lot of dreams. I even applied for Math school at high school but I am lucky to be majoring in Architecture now. I would love to visit buildings in Japan, Spain, Netherlands and Germany.

What would you do if you were not an architect?
Taxi driver ! I got the driving license last semester .lol…..

What is your dream project?
I’d like to create a project that benefits the users. It is effective and attractive.

What is your favourite project in your portfolio? Why?
I don’t really have one. I am always challenging myself to take a different look of previous projects. The unlimited possibility is the fun part of design. I might never ever have a favorite project because I would always be able to improve myself at so many levels.

最喜欢的建筑师是谁？为什么？
Peter Eisenman.他认为建筑是一种休克治疗的形式，不管他的意思是什么，彼得艾森曼被归类为解构主义，虽然他常常拒绝被标签化。你会从他的作品中读到很多对栅格的解读，尤其表现在他的住宅设计中。低年级学生会常常模仿这种风格，但是你看到艾森曼能合理的用内部动因通过图解转化为外部动因。

你所在学校的教育特点？
在这里很难说教育特点。有一些老师会给你很多思维上的开拓，鼓励我们去做任何我们想到的东西，强调方法。另一些老师也许就会说不行你不能这么做，你这个建不出来，你这个走廊太长。这也没有什么不好，老师给的只是建议，看自己解读到什么。

在MAD实习最大的收获是什么？
我很喜欢MAD的工作氛围及环境。许多实习生都是冲着老马来的这点毫无疑问，真正融入这个集体以后会发现更多令人兴奋的东西。

你对中国建筑的感触是什么？建议是什么？
这是个太大的问题。国内在中国建筑的发展方向上也存在很多争议。我很喜欢北京的胡同。MAD就在一个胡同里，每天中午大家会一起在周围散散步随便走走。现代建筑让人兴奋，但胡同让人感动。这里太多建筑太“官方”，太盲目跟随。老马说设计不是开玩笑，而是未来的象征。他在中国混乱的建筑设计中试图找到一个属于自己的风格，或者说试图为中国找到一种风格，起码这是我所看到的。“建议”？这个问题还真回答不来，我看到的东西还太少。

你的梦想是什么？
梦想很多，高考填志愿时还填过数学系，不过幸好被建筑录取。现在很想去世界各地看看建筑，日本，西班牙，荷兰，德国。。。

你如果不当建筑师会选择什么职业？
出租车司机！上学期刚考完驾照，这也是一门技能。哈哈。

你梦想中的项目是什么样的？
我不知道怎么才算是梦想中的，就目前而言是希望使用者真正的觉得它好，它的存在是影响到周围的，是被关注的。

在自己的作品集中，你最喜欢的作品是什么？为什么？
能说没有吗。每做完一个都会觉得有很多的不足，现在看更是大大的不足，会常想现在我会怎么做怎么做。但无限的可能性也正是设计的乐趣，我们还有很多上升和思考的空间和能力，也许到我真正懂建筑之前不会有自己喜欢的.

 

Ecological tribe for the future city

From the perspectives of urban problems and urban ideals, the design of Hongxing Road District originated from the vertical and horizontal axes and was also confined to the reconstruction of the two axes. The ideal urban development will also vary according to the transformation of the two axes.

The horizontal axis connects Chunxi Road to Daci Temple and does not exist for the moment. In the new urban spatial system, the horizontal axis will undertake the function of transportation since there are many transportation nodes such as taxi stations, entrances and exits of metro and bus stations along the line. It runs through the space from the west to the east and provides convenient transferring methods to arrive at every district in this area. The vertical and horizontal axes combine to be the core of the spatial structure of Hongxing Road, and divide the whole area into four sections from where we began our design.

从城市问题和城市理想出发，红星路片区的城市设计起源于纵横两条轴线，并且也止于两条轴线的改造，理想中的城市发展，也将集中于两条轴线的变迁。

横轴由春熙路连接大慈寺，现状并不存在，在新的城市空间体系中，主要承担交通功能。横轴集中了出租车站，地铁出入口，公交车站等交通集散点。横轴由西向东穿越场地，提供了便捷的换乘方式，也便于到达场地的各个区域。纵横两轴结合成为红星路的空间结构核心，由此生成的四片城市空间，自此，从这里开始我们的设计。

 

Rail station

This small high speed rail station will be built in Pengzhou, which is the second largest comparatively well-off city in Chengdu. Therefore it plays an important role. Pengzhou has big topographic variations with many mountains. This design takes the concept of the relation of mountains, trees and light to form the basic theme of high-speed rail station. And Pengzhou has raining weather most of the year. Its special climate conditions make greenery on the surface of the building easy to survive.

Pengzhou is a residential city, not the kind of tourist city like Dujiangyan. Therefore the shape design is considered from the whole urban planning. The high-speed rail station will be an important view for window scenery of future residential users around the base. The emphasize on the shape features of “the Fifth Facade” does not make the high-speed rail station as city portal, but as part of the city, create visual enjoyment for the residents around in addition to departure and arrival passengers.

此小型高铁站将修建于彭州市，彭州市距离成都较进，且为成都市面积第二大的小康市。因此占有重要地位。彭州市地形变化大，山势较多，此设计以山、树与光的关系为概念，生成了高铁站的基本题型。且彭州市常年多雨，特殊的气候条件使的建筑绿化表皮得以生存。

彭州市为居民城市，而并非都江堰一类的旅游城市。因此在体型设计上考虑从整个城市规划来考虑，将来基地周围的住宅楼用户向窗外看的高铁站为一个重要的视角。注重“第五立面”的造型特色，使高铁站并不是发挥“城市门户”的作用，而是作为城市的一体，除出发与到达的乘客，周围的居民也能从视角上享受它。

 

URBAN DESIGN

What should we choose, urban or countryside, inheritance or innovation, consumptionor production, individual or collective? Correspondingly in traditional oriental society, the concept of “nature and I are of one soul” has been vividly illustrated in “the debate in Haoliang” by Chuang Tzu. We conduct the analysis into the design with reference to Howard’s garden city after careful read-through.

The whole design of land use displays sharp contrast between suburbs and urban areas. We abandon the original design out of disagreement in its definitions of the boundary between city and suburbs which should never be contrasting. The contrast between the two will result in constant extension of urban to suburbs without restriction. Clear boundary between city and suburbs greatly reduce positive effect of countryside on the urban while boundary constituted by penetration mechanism can enable residents in the urban and suburbs to enjoy a better living environment.

都市还是田园？延续还是更新？消费还是生产？个体还是集体？与之相映，在东方的社会思想传统中，周庄在几千年的“濠梁之辩”里就生动阐释了“物我合一”的观念。我们仔细阅读了霍德华的《田园城市》，以此来分析我们的基地。

整天规划用地表现出田园与城市鲜明的对立性，我们将原有的规划推翻，是由于不赞同它对城市与田园边界的定义，城市与田园不应该是鲜明对立的，这种对立性会导致城市向田园不断扩张而没有约束，边界的明确严重降低了田园对城市的正面影响，而由渗透的机制构成的边界则能使居住在田园的城市的居民享受到更好的居住环境。
