出生在1978年的Popel Coumou自6岁就开始摄影了，2000—2004年她在GerritRietveld学院学习之后于2007年获得广告摄影新势力奖，作品中并存的商品化与反商品化气质让她脱颖而出，获得最佳评价。很多人被她其中反映出来的抽象，疏离所吸引。

她在一次访谈中提到：“现在，摄影和真实世界没有关系。被拍摄的人很清楚地知道什么是照相机，所以他们会调整自己面对镜头时的样子，甚至会夸大某些行为。另一方面，照片拍摄的也仅仅是现实中的一小部分，这些被从现实中抽离出来的图像，可以按照你的需要去转换它而不是它在现实中应该呈现的样子。许多我们今天看到的照片仅仅是对现实的一个暗示、或者只是创造的“现实”。”她采用二维拼贴的方式，巧妙的操纵光感和透明度，这让她的作品看上去有些错乱不自然，但依然真切。这次介绍的四张作品同往常的作品有些区别，在曾经，她主要涉及三个方向的工作/研究：一个是抽象色彩的构成（有点像蒙德里安的构成），但它们最终还是关于空间的。另一个是寻找用纸做图的方法，用这个方法强调图片中特别吸引她的任何部分：比如光束等等。再有一个就是在空间中加入人物，使作品看起来更亲切一些，同时又多了一个层次。这次作品额外的引入线条，线条再组成面，通过面的透明度（线的密度）形成两个世界交汇。Popel Coumou的作品在世界各个著名艺术机构得到展出，比如阿姆斯特丹的FOAM，柏林的Aando艺术中心，韩国的Hangaram博物馆。2011年她出版了她的第一本书。深入了解不妨点击蓝色链接上她的网站看更多。

Popel Coumou (1978) studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy between 2000 and 2004.

Popels’ work consists out of analog photographs of collaged spaces or gardens that hint at human presence. In her works she tries to create images of places that seem both natural and unhinged. The collaged fragments of architecture are held together with tape and glue but come together through her ingenious use of lighting and transparency. By using analog photography she is able to provide these collaged spaces with a very distinct artistic signature.

Since than her work has been shown in many prominent institution throughout Europe such as FOAM Amsterdam, Aando Fine Art Berlin and the Hangaram museum in S. Korea. And her work became part of a growing number of significant collections such as the Gemeente museum Den Haag, FOAM Amsterdam, Huis Marseille and the ministries of foreign affairs and economy.

Last June she published her first book with van Zoetendaal and TORCH Gallery.
