Appreciation towards FUTUREFORMS for providing the following description:
Kimsey Grove by FUTUREFORMS (the Studio of Jason Kelly Johnson and Nataly Gattegno) is a sculptural shade canopy that draws inspiration from the pleated geometries of the saguaro cactus and the vibrant hues of desert flower blooms. It creates a link to the orange groves that once flourished on this site, recalling the region’s agricultural past.

Digitally crafted from hundreds of bespoke parts, the origami-like structural skin is woven together and riveted by hand. As a landmark urban gesture, Kimsey Grove anchors the site of the AC Hotel Scottsdale Old Town and celebrates the dynamic ecological and cultural characteristics of the desert landscape.

Nataly Gattegno
“We are excited to see our sculptural shade canopy contribute to the ongoing transformation of downtown Scottsdale. The sculpture offers a place to pause—a setting to meet a friend before heading to a nearby restaurant or event. It is a ecognizable urban landmark within a dynamic, evolving district. The kaleidoscopic skin of Kimsey Grove draws on the colors and forms of the desert landscape, creating a rich constellation of shifting visual effects.” –Nataly Gattegno

“Kimsey Grove is an original artwork that merges structure and skin into a series of distinctive overhead vaults. Its origami-inspired surface is composed of unique stainless steel panels woven together with red structural stiffeners, forming a continuous skin that acts as the primary support while creating a bold visual presence. As light moves across the perforated surface, it comes alive—casting shifting patterns of shadow and light that enrich the experience of the piece.” –-Jason Kelly Johnson
