Service spaces rarely receive the same rigour as the rest of a building’s programme. Balvanera Baños departs from a different premise: that a bathroom can — and should — be a work of architecture. Located at the heart of the Balvanera equestrian grounds, a few metres from the events area, the new bathrooms are conceived as a discreet pavilion that, by virtue of its position, shapes a small plaza from which circulation is distributed across the different areas of the complex. Service architecture does not hide — it organises, articulates and gives character to the place. The project comprises four hermetic volumes built from reclaimed railway sleepers, distinguished by their solid and austere presence. Each body, measuring 5 × 5 × 5 metres, rests on concrete bases and is separated by exposed concrete walls, reinforcing its rugged and resolute character from the exterior.

The central access, conceived as an open vestibule, reveals an unexpectedly luminous and well-ventilated interior. Overhead skylights allow natural light to enter and frame views towards the tree canopies and the sky, while hanging plants soften the edges of the parapets, generating a fresh atmosphere in constant dialogue with nature. The materiality balances the rustic with the refined: river-washed stone floors provide texture, while the wrought iron and cumaru screens introduce warmth and artisanal precision. The deep pomegranate tone of the interior walls contrasts with the rawness of the exterior, revealing a dialogue between solidity and delicacy.
