Appreciation towards Alexandra Kehayoglou for providing the following description:

Alexandra Kehayoglou的客户有建筑师,设计师,艺术家,收藏家,以及任何希望在自己房间里拥有一片花园的人。

” My greek grandparents emigrated to Argentina carrying a textile tradition. As an artist, I resignify it and using industrial discarded materials, I hand-tuft rugs. I intend to capture a moment, inviting the spectator to experience an inner time. ” – Alexandra Kehayoglou

Seventy years ago,a Greek immigrant family brought a tradition to this lands that still remains: the design and production of carpets.

Alexandra Kehayoglou, one of its grandaughters, took that legacy and mixing curiosity and congenital ability managed to transform it into artistic expression.
Having studied visual arts and advertising art direction, plus art and nature clinics, Alexandra submerged into the spinning world of yarn within the family business El Espartano. From surplus she began to weave unique pieces that are also acquired as a product of design.

In 2008 he produced a series of cowleathers woven as rugs. Then she began to weave representing nature as ‘pastures’ (carpet) or ‘shelter’ (endless tapestries that hang from the wall to the floor inciting to introspection), that she exhibits as works of art or sells to particular clients.

Her inspiration is bounded to contemplation and the landscape experience recreating sceneries of the old pampa of Buenos Aires to immortalize it in a carpet. A pasture can be a beautiful object to decorate a house but it’s also a reality trim, a landscape at risk of extinction. Weaving a grass carpet is her way of contributing with the awareness of preserving the environment. “The pastures come to pay homage to our native ground. As inhabitants of this land we have been modifying it and little remains from what it once was”, she reflects.

Alexandra tufts her rugs manually, using the same technique used to produce comercial ones. By doing so she shares the productive processes with workers, technicians and engineers from the family business. Each piece is unique and unrepeatable, done from recovered or discarded material from production. Wool in perfect shape that is already dyed. According to the works complexity, a rug can take a week or two months, and wether it’s for an exhibition or for a particular client, she never separates from the logic of her artistic work.

“The pieces can be seen as a design product, but my process is bounded to art. Behind each piece there’s a story, they are postcards of places I visited, of realities I imagine. They are exercises to change the speed of time, the way we go through it, ” she says.

Among her clients there are designers, artists, collectors, architects or anyone who wishes to have grass or a garden in their homes.
