这个纪念墙位于意大利卢卡的一个修道院中，便利人们缅怀已故的亲人。建筑师认为这个项目十分有趣和具备挑战性，因为需要满足甲方的要求以及人们的感受，“纪念意义”无疑是一个敏感的象征。

用石材砌出坚固的墙，围出盘旋的路，这条联系现在和曾经的路解开伤痕累累的回忆历程，终点，是一个正方形的广场，广场中心是一棵耸向天空的柏树，这里是纪念的高潮。纪念地位于修道院腹地，外围的花园容纳着平静的修道院生活，修女们在这里漫步，阅读，祈祷。这个项目也向在这里为神奉献自己让他人幸福的修女致敬。

The project of such an unusual building is quite interesting and challenging to an architect. The respect and care for the client are really important, but most important it’s the understanding of the symbolic meaning needed by this special piece of work, which has to be considered with particular sensitiveness.  The Wall of Memory has been commissioned by Santa Gemma Nuns, who wanted a sanctuary where they could commemorate their deceased sisters and pray for them.

In this project, the solid wall becomes the symbol which represents the path towards memory and commemoration. The concept which represents the cornerstone of the project is a “rationalist snail”, where the wall, made of travertine stone, unravels itself from the entrance to the end of the path and gently leads the believers towards the square at the end of it. The course of the path is thought like a scar, which symbolizes the persistence of memory; the stone wall verticality stands for the comparison between past and present.

At the end of the path, there’s a square, “Sancta Sanctorum”, and in its centre there’s a cypress, a well-proportioned tree, which rises towards the sky, representing the climax of the prayer.

The place where the Memory Wall is set is right in the heart of the monastery life and has its own genius loci. In the vicinity of the Memory Wall there is the back garden, where the nuns work, and the cloister where they walk, read and pray. This project is a homage to nuns, who, with their Christian devotion, dedicate their lives to the others with serenity and happiness.
