《1993-2022 回答玉林》城市更新特展，设“城市”“人群”“生活方式”和“住居”4大展区，共16个单元，涵盖文本/摄影/装置/电影/插画/物件/音乐/模型/书籍等多种文献记录载体。它是玉林的一个缩略图，让玉林第一次立体、生动，全方位的聚合在一个展览空间里，给观者另一种走近玉林的体验。

The Urban Renewal Special Exhibition – Answer to Yulin in 1993-2022, consists of four exhibition areas, namely “City”, “People”, “Lifestyle” and “Dwelling”, with a total of 16 units, covering various recording carriers such as text, photography, devices, films, illustrations, objects, music, models and books. The exhibition epitomizes Yulin in a three-dimensional, vivid and all-round way for the first time, giving visitors another experience of approaching Yulin.

当然，玉林的价值在于它也如同一个缩略图，为走近当代中国生活的三十年变迁史提供一定的检索。为玉林留存文献正是本次展览的基调。关于展览的报道已经太多，季意作为参展者和展览空间的设计者，或许可以从本职的角度，让大家了解展览的另一番用心。

Yulin is also the epitome of the 30-year history of changes in modern China, which is where its value lies. Preserving literature for Yulin is the keynote of this exhibition. There have been too many reports about the exhibition. As the exhibitor and designer of the exhibition space, Ge may be able to tell you more stories about the intentions of the exhibition in term of its design.

展场面积不算大，我们希望它力求简单，将关注度终点留在展品和逛展体验上。主体空间极为简洁，充分为展览内容服务，只在门厅和外立面部分适当加入了戏剧性的设置。

We hope that it looks concise as the exhibition area is not large. Visitors could focus more on what they see and how they feel in their exhibition tour. The main space is extremely simple and fully serves for the exhibition content. Only the entrance hall and the facade are added with dramatic settings.

当观者，站在旧时剧院般的门厅处，会顺其自然地走到售票亭两侧的门口，带着好奇从门上的玻璃圆窗往里窥探，待要推门而入时，才发现真正的入口并非于此，而自己已置身“时光的取景框”里。

The lobby looks like the old theater. When the visitor stands in the lobby, he will naturally walk to the doors on both sides of the ticket booth, and peep in through the round glass windows on the door with curiosity. Then he may find that the real entrance is not here after entering the room, and he has already been in the “Viewfinder of Time”.

“我在未来的时间里，走在过去的街巷间”。
在做空间设计的时候，尽管主体是极简，但我们也在材料和颜色搭配上加入了些许复古摩登的味道，如姜黄色地毯，流行于90年代的仿古砖等。

“I will walk in the streets of the past in the future.”
Speaking of design, although the main body is minimalist, we also add some retro and modern elements to the material and color matching, such as ginger color carpet, antique bricks popular in the 1990s.

作为空间设计者，季意希望来观展的人能够有更多有趣的互动，能令人记住、谈论而不是拍照、发圈过后就忘。和展览蕴含的深意一样，展览空间的设计是“另一种视角”和打破常规体验“附近”，重新审视我们身处的城市，追问理想城市、社区、生活。

As the space designer, Ge hopes that visitors to the exhibition can have more interesting interactions, which can be remembered and discussed, rather than forgotten after taking photos and sending wechat moments. Like the profound meaning of the exhibition, the design of the exhibition space is to experience “nearby” in an unconventional way, reviewing the city we live in with “another perspective”, and ask about the ideal city, community and life.

“回答玉林”，可能关乎中国过去三十年城市化高速发展下的人口迁徙史——从最初的国家单位职工宿舍到成为年轻的城市过客们落脚的首选社区；可能关乎中国从上世纪九十年代初方兴未艾到如今成为世界第二大经济体，民众自我认知失衡的普遍症灶；可能关乎两代知识分子与文化创意人不断碰撞与尝试对话的窘局，及其投射在街角间的一场“没有硝烟的战事”；更可能关乎我们寻找新生活方式的一场旷日持久的社会试验。

Answer to Yulin, the special exhibition, may be related to the history of population migration under the rapid development of urbanization in China in the past three decades – from the initial staffs living quarters to becoming the preferred community for young urban passers-by. It saw the common symptom of the imbalance of people’s self-awareness that China has become the world’s second largest economy repaidly since the early 1990s. It witnessed the scene of two generations of intellectuals and cultural creatives arguing and attempting to communicate, resulting “smoke free war” in the street corner. It is more likely to be a long-lasting social experiment in our search for a new way of life.

波兰女诗人及诺贝尔文学奖得主辛波斯卡说：“我为简短的回答向庞大的问题致歉。”与答案相比，提问显得更庞大，所以，“回答”仅仅是一个像窗口一样的开始。

“I apologize for the brief answer to the huge question.” said Szymborska, a Polish poetess who has won the Nobel Laureate in literature. Compared with the answer, the question is larger, so the “answer” is just the beginning like a window.
