The exhibition “Tattoo Off”, curated by Massimiliano Maxx Testa, at the same time as the exhibition “Tattoo. Stories on the skin”, presents some masterpieces by six of the most significant and highly regarded international tattoo artists, precursors of new styles: hyper-realistic, ornamental, pictorial, Black&Grey and Trash Polka.

The top floor of M9 has therefore been divided into two areas to make room for both exhibitions. A drape over 30m long and 5m high decorated with brocade patterns, obtained by assembling iconic figures of the most traditional tattoo styles, separates and unites the two spaces.

The same brocade becomes the basis for setting up the photos of the tattoos, framed as in more traditional exhibitions.

The exhibition “Tattoo. Stories on the skin”, curated by Luca Beatrice and Alessandra Castellani, explores the universe of tattoos from an anthropological, historical, artistic and social point of view.

The exhibition transforms the third floor into a sort of underground construction site, a setting halfway between visionary and industrial. A curtain opens the scene to a space in which the works are suspended, where neon lights mark time and bathroom mirrors, hanging everywhere, make the visitor the protagonist of the exhibition.
