Suzy Lelievre does not look upon things the way they are made for. She gives everyday objects incongruous shapes, the most modest tool is transformed into something different. A sponge takes the shape of a brain, a ladder twists itself into a spiral, a slide gets a node, a plate of noodles develops a fork… Her tables embrace each other, bending under the effort, some of them are inseparably tied up with their assorted chair.
Having made her studies in Fine Arts in Nîmes, followed by Lyon, this young artist has quickly become somewhat of an expert in transgressions, metamorphosing all kinds of domestic elements. In her work, reality gets slightly twisted, generating objects that fringes art and design. It is a design that refuses functionality, playing with materials and producing mutant silhouettes. When Suzy Lelievre draws a store safety fence, it is in paper. A protective railing? Made out of plaster.
The use of 3D renderings has started to open up on new perspectives. A funnel dripping of milk or a bottle bending over to dip its head into a wineglass, some of the things that she has imagined might never be made for real. The essential, for Suzy Lelievre, is to animate these objects.
