MAD no doubt is one of the most recognized architectural practices in China and worldwide. Every year, MAD receives countless job and internship applications. To be able to work at MAD will definitely enrich
your career as even though the people working here might have been lucky, but are undeniably outstanding. What could possibly be on the minds of the MAD interns?

MAD无疑是中国最受瞩目的建筑师事务所之一，同时在世界范围内也受到极高的关注。
MAD每年都收到来自全世界不计其数的工作申请和实习申请。
能够进入MAD学习和工作一段时间，职业生涯无疑会变得精彩丰富，

Who is your favourite architect? Why?
There are many architects I admire for different reasons, Ando, Siza, Zumthor, to name a few… however, if I had to choose one I would go for Luis Barragan. The equal amounts of sensibility and excentricity in his work are just amazing and awe-inspiring. I find he deftly merges the intimate and beautiful with the mysterious and abstract. I am a huge fan of his house in Mexico City, which he reworked and perfected over the course of many years…

What is the major characteristic of your current school’s education?
It is a relatively young university, and as such the environment is very dynamic and always changing. It can be a little unstable, but most of the time, it is quite exciting. As such, we have a lot of people—students and professors alike—coming from all over the world to contribute and share their methods, skills and ideas.

What have you gained during the MAD internship?
Beyond the technical skills I have had the chance to learn and train, working at MAD has broadened my perspective on architecture as a whole. It’s been especially good for me to escape from the rather rigid and polite world of Swiss architecture into a world with more freedom and experimentation, where many more things are possible. I don’t mean to say that Swiss architecture is inferior in any way; just different. And it’s a really nice change.

What are your thoughts and feelings upon Chinese Architecture and the environment? Any suggestion?
The architectural environment in China seems like a very exciting place, right about now. There’s a certain energy and frenetic boldness about it… Somewhat crazy and maybe a little scary, to be sure, but fascinating and I’m really looking forward to see how it evolves and matures in the coming years.

What is your dream?
To see the whole world, so I can go back home and start again.

What would you do if you were not an architect?
I would live on a boat floating down a northern european river and write detective novels on an old typewriter.

What is your dream project?
I mentioned Barragan before, and I find that the way he worked continuously on his house for many years, changing and perfecting things, is very appealing. Experimenting, modifiying, designing spaces in your own home over the course of many years. Your very own living, breathing, evolving building… sounds awesome.

What is your favourite project in your portfolio? Why?
The Borderlands project holds a special place in my heart, as I believe it was the first project in which everything I had learned actually came together : the idea, the program, the process, everything. Though the final project was admittedly a little crazy, I learned a lot about how to approach problems through design and how to focus ideas and feelings into architecture.

最喜欢的建筑师是谁？为什么？
因为各种原因我喜欢各种不同的建筑师：安藤，卒姆托，西扎……但如果真要选一个的话那会是路易斯.巴拉干。他那富有感性的工作如此惊艳的迷人。他巧妙的融合亲密，美丽于神秘和抽象。他在墨西哥城中的那些多年设计和完善的作品让我成为他不折不扣的粉丝。

你所在学校的教育特点？
学校相对年轻，因此环境是动态的，总发生变化。虽然有点不稳定，但是却常常让人兴奋。这里的人们，不论学生还是老师，都来自世界各地，大家都在这里分享各自的方法，技能还有思想。

在MAD实习最大的收获是什么？
技术技能得到很大的锻炼。在MAD工作我对建筑的有了整体的认识。从瑞士那个严格的，教条的世界到这个自由的，充满实验和无限可能的世界，对我来说太棒了。我只是说瑞士的建筑分为和这里不同。这是一个好的变化。

你对中国建筑的感触是什么？建议是什么？
中国现在的建筑环境还挺让人兴奋的。其能量和胆量让人觉得疯狂，也许有点不可思议但是的确迷人，我真的很期待看到他未来几年是如何发展和成熟的。

你的梦想是什么？
看整个世界，然后回家重新开始。

你如果不当建筑师会选择什么职业？
我将生活在飘在北欧河中的小船上，用一台旧的打字机写侦探小说。

你梦想中的项目是什么样的？
我之前提到过巴拉干，他连续多年对啊的房子进行设计和翻新完善，这对我来讲非常有吸引力。设计自己的家，持续多年的实验和修改。完全你自己的生活，呼吸，发展的建筑……听起来真棒。

在自己的作品集中，你最喜欢的作品是什么？为什么？
Borderlands在我心中有着特别的位置，这是我第一个自认为把理念，程序，过程了解并结合在一起的项目，虽然最后的项目诚然有些不可思议，但是我学到了很多有关通过设计如何处理问题，以及如在建筑中体现思想和情感。

SCREENING THE INTAGIBLE

An exploration of the phenomena of buoyancy through physical experiments the moment when a body plunges into water.
Playing with the concepts of tension and release.
The starting point for the design of a plaster-cast screen and, later, the Borderlands project.

探索身体入水那一刻的物理浮力现象。
探讨紧张以及释放的概念。
这成为石膏墙体设计以及后面Borderlands项目的起点。

BORDERLANDS

A poetic answer to the slow destruction of natural habitats along Lake Geneva.
Seven wooden islands, at the mouth of a river. By sedimentation, the islands slowly collect the river’s sand.
Artificial islands morph into natural sand islands and create a blurred borderland between earth & water where life can flourish.
A wooden footbridge emerges from the dense reed-bed brings man into this new environment.

这是减缓日内瓦湖自然栖息地破坏速度的一个充满诗意的应对。
7个在河口的木岛，通过沉淀缓慢收集河流携带的沙土。
人工岛屿在最后变成有着自然泥土的天然群岛，成为生命可以蓬勃发展的一个疆域。
一个从茂密芦苇丛中探出的木桥将人们带入这个新环境。

SUSPIRE

An intense 9-person project at ALICE.The aim was to build Suspire during the summer break.
A path through the layers of the Rolex Learning Centre by SANAA.
Eighteen wooden frames, wrapped around one another,Forming an interior, direct shaft to a point above the roof.
A slower path, descending slowly around the shaft,the visitor discovers the layers he has crossed,experiences verticality in a wholly different way

一个暑期9人项目。要在SANAA设计的劳力士学习中心设计一条路径。
18个木构体系形成一个整体表皮，包裹着一条通往屋顶的旋转路径。
人们通过不经意的漫游，体会不同的垂直游历路径体验，发现他们已经上到一个新高度。

HOME 2.0

The home of the future – inspired by the abilities of various animals.
An “insulative home”, with artifical fur surrounding the building with athick layer of static, insulating air.
The fur is fully orientable and follows the path of the sun, allowing theblack facades beneath to accumulate heat.
Conceived using the parametric design tool Grasshopper andmodelled in Rhino.
Four homes – including ours – were selected, slightlyredesigned, laser-printed and sent to the Swiss Pavillion at theShanghai World Expo 2010.

未来的家，灵感来自各种动物的能力。一个“绝缘的家”，一层厚厚的人造软毛成为建筑表皮和绝缘层。
皮毛可以完全的定向以及跟随太阳的路径，使得黑色外立面可以汇聚热量。使用参数化设计工具犀牛进行建模和Grasshopper运算。
四个房子，包括这一个，被选中，经过略微修改后用激光打印出来，选送到了2010年上海世博会瑞士馆。

SIDE_STEP

Pamplona – Spain
A centre for alternative culture in the heart of Pamplona.
Shopping, alternative theater, children’s playground, exhibition hall, ice-skating rink…
Main issues : exterior public space, superposition of various programmatic entities within a
coherent ensemble.
The concept : an extrusion of the available area.
A great prism, excavated to allow the exterior space to grow and spread, creating different
linked typologies.

在西班牙潘普洛纳中心区域的一个不同凡响的文化中心，
有购物场所，剧场，儿童游乐园，展览馆，溜冰场。
主要面临的问题是外部的公共空间以及这些不同功能实体的组合。

WORLDS APART

CERN – Geneva, Switzerland
A rehabillitation project of a strategically-placed unused boiler room near the future
entrance of one of the most advanced scientific research centres in the world.
The intervention included three very different buildings, but each one was approached with
the same concept : bringing the mysterious, incomprehensible world of the CERN and our
“everyday” outside world together.
The focal point of the complex : an interior multipurpose room, formed according to the
existing concrete structure and spaces.

这是位于瑞士日内瓦的欧洲核研究中心，世界上最先进的科研中心之一。
三个非常不一样的建筑有着类似的概念：神秘。核研究中心与日常世界截然不同所带来的神秘。
其中最复杂的构造是一个混凝土结构的室内多功能用房。

SANS CRIER GARE

Competition – Sierre, Switzerland
A school, a gym-hall and a huge underground bus station linking Sierre to the innumerable
valleys of the Swiss Alps.
The whole complex is an extensive redesign of the south-side of Sierre’s train station : a
new heart to a city searching for one.
Designed the facades and made 3d renderings.

瑞士谢尔地区的竞赛：位于谢尔火车站南侧，是城市一个新的中心地。
包含一所学校，一个健身房和一个庞大的联系着瑞士阿尔卑斯山地区交通的地下公交车站。
