Appreciation towards Iris Scott for providing the following description:
Q: Oil Finger Paintings is very special and amazing –Why use Finger this way? And how has it changed your creative process?
A: Finger painting with oils is a totally not traditional strategy to paint, it breaks many of the normal rules. Traditional artists paint with various layers and glazes to work their way up to light colors. Artists also generally utilize a mixing palette to make very specific colors….well I don’t use either of these traditional techniques! My finger paintings are usually created in one day as rapidly as possible. On paintings days I start in the early morning and work until midnight. I have to work quickly because the oils will lose their soft texture after about 10 hours. It’s hectic and sometimes very stressful to race the clock like this, but the benefit is a swirling, movement-filled, composition. Finger painting also allows me 5 contact points, so now I apply colors about 5 times faster than I used to achieve with a single brush tip. Since I do not have time to mix colors on a palette anymore, instead I buy ALL the colors made by my favorite brand of paint. I have so many different colors you would be amazed.
