Jedediah Corwyn Voltz is a prop builder, Sculptor, Illustrator, and Painter by trade. Him originally from New Hampshire, went to school at Savannah College of Art and Design, and now live in Los Angeles. He’ve been working in movies and TV since 2003, creating things like the Happy Honda Days stop motion christmas ads, the last beastie boys video before Adam Yauch passed away, and tons of props for lots of big feature movies and tv shows.

Somewhere Small is his first showing of these succulent and cacti sculptures. Jedediah Corwyn Voltz ‘ve shown before, (luddite gallery, thinkspace, virgil normal) but it’s been just paintings and illustrations for the most part.

Building miniatures for stop motion always leaves me with a huge bin of scrap balsa, basswood, various fabrics, etc. and Jedediah Corwyn Voltz found he making little fantasy constructions out of that stuff during his downtime. Those little scrap forts led to him building some more serious ones in little diorama settings, and last year he built his first living treehouse. Since then, he’ve made almost 25 of them, from tiny watchtowers in secluded forests, to quiet treetop meditation platforms,to giant bustling windmills and waterwheels.

Jedediah Corwyn Voltz try to build structures that compliment the plant they’re living in, and grow with them. Jedediah Corwyn Voltz ‘ve hand made pottery, silk rugs, furniture, sculptures, paintings, and various other accessories to populate these little worlds. Most of his plants are filled with semi precious stones like tigers eye, labradorite, quartz, amethyst, and apatite, all in their raw forms. This is he way of bringing he love of geology into his work just a little bit.

The show opens on April 23rd, from 4pm to 10pm, at a Gallery/Boutique called Virgil Normal, named after the crossroads it’s planted on, and the former home of the infamous, world renowned CHOKE moped shop. The owners, Charlie and Shirley, are huge patrons of the arts, and artist in their own right in the world of fashion. There’ll be beer and wine, plus music by DJ duo “Don’t Come DJs”.
