On a discreet street, a short stroll from the bustling Place d’Italie, lies a secluded courtyard. The tall iron gate at 8 bis avenue de la Soeur Rosalie opens onto a hidden oasis that gently hums with life. A hotel and so much more. An Open Garden, a Secret Garden, a place to slumber, to while away the hours, to dine, to reflect. A hotel that’s alive, where nature — seeds, humans and neighbours — are respected and given free reign.

Welcome to Rosalie. A place for the unexpected. A green Urbex, where nature slowly overtakes concrete to find its true place in amongst man-made grooves and gaps. The decoration for Hotel Rosalie’s sixty rooms shakes up the average Parisian 4-star standard. Open to its surroundings, the outside comes inside : the street, the neighbourhood. Décor elements from across the ages meet as if by chance. Roman-style statues gaze upon an edifice that could be a late 90s office building, flanked by an old 205 Peugeot, abandoned on the rooftop. Outside, two gardens inspire leafy reverie… Here and there are Bouroullec armchairs in raw steel, a trellis in the shape of a cloud, a hop plant, tables designed by Marion Mailaender.

Open Garden, Secret Garden
In the lobby, a giant recycled coconut fiber rug leads the way. The seven letters of Rosalie welcome guests into the Open Garden — a two-level terrace linked by a little cascade — accessible to all hotel clients, the local community, and others. Guests can settle in for a drink or a sun-filled lunch shaded by a towering six-meter hop plant, whose flowers will soon be transformed by a microbrewery in the 11th arrondissement. Behind a hidden door on the 3rd floor, hotel guests can unwind in the exclusive calm of the Secret Garden — a rooftop adorned with deck chairs, wooden benches and planters; a space where guests can take the time to reconnect, read or catch some rays, do a yoga class, participate in workshops on sophrology or nutrition.

The Common
The Common & Bar
From sunrise to sunset, The Common is a Parisian coffee shop that serves locally- sourced breakfast, lunch and apéritifs: bread and pastries from Chez Meunier, products from La Biocoop, ground coffee from the Brûlerie des Gobelins, homegrown herbs from the hotel’s own garden… To kickstart your day, work remotely, take a lunch break, or lie low from the urban buzz, treat yourself to virtuous lattes from la Main Noire, teas from Maison Kodama, or draft beers and Kombucha from Deck & Donohue.

A bar surrounded by nature, a space to snack, savor and share, hidden gardens and rooms to relax in. Rosalie is the place to be for those who are eco-friendly — a concept that’s now more important than ever, embraced by activists, philosophers and naturalists, underlining our inherent interdependence and need for respect between humans, biodiversity, nature and our environment.

Photosynthesising
No greenwashing, but instead a deep appreciation of the elements that surround us — Joris Bruneel aims to restore nature, helping it to reclaim its rightful place in the urban landscape. With patience and respect for our ecosystems, vegetation is cultivated and invited to take over an architecture that has kept it at bay for so long. Fascinated by Urbex, as depicted in photographer Romain Chancel’s work, which graces the hotel room walls, Bruneel invited Parisian collective Merci Raymond to contribute their expertise and devise ways to bring nature back to Rosalie, allowing it to regain nooks and crannies where lichen and moss can grow, and seeds can sprout freely. The light- filled rooms on the 7th and 8th floors — with their breathtaking views across Paris — the Rosalie Suite terrace, and the hotel gardens are an invitation to photosynthesise for an hour, a night, or longer.
