Three architects with a common passion for food, design, photography and communication, participated and won the first prize at the “Brocche 2.0” with the proposal “Brocche Fondenti”. The merchandising cathegory of the competition required the design of manufactured products, both functional and design intended for souvenirs and inspired by the “brocca” from Ledro (TN), wich is a typical nail used for safer mountain shoes and boots.

Brocche 2.0 is a competition of ideas for the functional and creative reinterpretation of the Brocca, typical handmade nail, still produced in Valle di Ledro, used for mountain boots and “sgalmere” between the mid-nineteenth century and the end of World War II.
The goal of the contest is to produce manufactured articles for the souvenirs market that combine utility and design and that, starting from the “brocca”, reinterpret its meaning and function, drawing inspiration from any idea that may arise from the object itself.
The report of the competition:
Brocche Fondenti di Ledro
The original “brocche” of the past, made by the skilled hands of artisans from Ledro, were conceived to make the boots more durable and safe when used to walk through the mountains.
Our proposal takes the same forms developed over the centuries and reinterprets them with a new material: the dark chocolate.
The Brocche Fondenti are nails made by finest chocolate and can be used to “strengthen” the taste of the most beloved desserts or enjoy greatly in the mouth alone or combined with a good rum.
While the iron “brocche” – made unique and special by the tangible signs of craftsmanship – are made for durability and to extend the life of the objects to which they apply, the Brocche Fondenti add new flavor to desserts such as pies, muffins and ice cream, and to the typical krapfen and gnocchi boemi (typical local dumplings).
The Brocche Fondenti, such as the nails that inspired them, are designed to slip into a soft sponge cake and the softer and tasty custards.
Added to a well-prepared dessert give an ironic and unexpected appearence, by a combination of irregular and hard shape of an iron nail with the sweetness of the chocolate.
It’s a playful and ephemeral experience that brings back the tradition handmade of Ledro, its history and its taste, to become an object to give someone or oneself as a souvenir of a pleasant trip.
