在加拿大安大略省温莎附近长大的Amy Friend,结束欧美之旅后，继续投入与艺术设计相关的人文社会学科学习。现在，她在一系列的古老家庭照片加上类似光点的效果。这些照片反映了当时时代的信息，当然只是微弱的呈现。Amy Friend的处理，让这些照片被改变，并遗失了他们的信息。这个系列有着一个意大利的名字：Daré alla Lucé。形容出生那一刻。

STATEMENT

Currently I am working on a series using vintage photographs. Most of these images were “found” while others were sourced from my own family albums. A number of the found photographs contain written information indicating identity, location, time period or brief details regarding the circumstances of the photographs. The notes provide some guidance in regard to the history or context of the imagery; however, they are only able to offer a faint indication of a much greater narrative.

Several of the given titles reference the written information found on the photographs, however, the images without notations were titled with the intention of conveying the nuances of photographic imagery, history and memory. I am interested in the idea of a photograph as an object of potential; objects that serve to tell a story and preserve memory, yet they are equally able to fail at this.

With their purpose “lost” I aimed to transform these “found images”. Through small deliberate interventions, I altered the photographs allowing light to pass through them. In a literal and somewhat playful manner I proposed to give the photographs back to the light, hence the title of the series, Daré alla Lucé, an Italian phrase used to describe the moment of birth.

BIO

I grew up on the outskirts of Windsor, Ontario, Canada where the Detroit River meets Lake St.Clair. For a few years I studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design before embarking on intermittent travels through Europe, Morocco, Cuba and the United States. I returned to my studies and received a BFA honours degree and BEd degree from York University, Toronto as well as an MFA degree from the University of Windsor, where I received a Social Sciences and Humanities Grant as well as an Ontario Graduate Scholarship.

My work has been featured in selected publications such as the Magenta Flash Forward Emerging Photography Competition, EnRoute Magazine and LENS magazine (China). I have exhibited my work nationally and internationally and was awarded grants from Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council. Recently I attended a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts and travelled to Cuba to work on an ongoing project. In the summer of 2012 my work will be exhibited in the “Change of Pace” exhibition at the Detroit Center for Contemporary Photography.
