DESIGN MUSEUM CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH THE WORLDS TALLEST CARDBOARD CHRISTMAS TREE

The Design Museum has commissioned one of its former Designers in Residence, Giles Miller, to design a bespoke six meter tall cardboard Christmas tree, possibly the tallest in the world, which will hang in the museums public atrium.

The cardboard Christmas tree is made up of 3,600 individually cut and handmade pieces, resulting in a swirl of three fans of card, cascading in a spiral like form. This one of a kind tree will be adorned with woodland animals including foxes, birds and squirrels designed by illustrator Daniel Heath.

The Design Museum has submitted an application to the Guinness Book of World Records and hopes to secure the title of holder of the World’s Tallest Cardboard Christmas Tree. Giles Miller is renowned for working with cardboard and has produced pieces for Stella McCartney, Selfridges and Ritz Carlton Hotels amongst others. Miller, as part of FARM collective was selected as a Design Museum Designer in Residence in 2009, he has since gone on to establish his own practice in East London – Giles Miller Studio.

Miller has also produced a range of smaller cardboard Christmas trees which will be sold exclusively at the Design Museum Shop. Prices range from £25 – £40 and each tree consists of adjustable cardboard segments which can be styled and shaped as desired.
