What if a cemetery could represent more than a final resting place? What if it could transcend the narrow associations of tradition and become a contemporary community park for all? Bunurong Memorial Park has achieved exactly this. Landscape architects ASPECT Studios worked with BVN Architects and the Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) to create a completely new model for what a cemetery in Australia can be.

Established in 1995, Bunurong Memorial Park was officially opened in April 2016 by Premier Daniel Andrews and Aboriginal elders. It comprises a land area of approximately 100 hectares and is the newest cemetery project of SMCT. SMCT’s vision for Bunurong Memorial Park was of a contemporary and distinctly Australian site that featured beautiful landscapes and an abundance of lakes and water features. They wanted to reposition the cemetery as not only a memorial park but also a community asset with relaxing places to socialise.

很少有墓地会着眼未来，但是Bunurong纪念公园的设计会随着时间而发展。那些在今后二十年来到公园的人们将会感受今天完全不一样的体验，而我们的挑战就是在于创造一个真正永恒的空间。澳派景观设计工作室ASPECT Studios与BVN Architects密切合作，为这一占地11公顷的项目提供设计服务，结合澳大利亚本地景观和全新的社区纪念馆趋势，打造全新的体验。位于中心的公园是核心部分，周边是全新设计的教堂和多种设施，如功能中心、葬礼服务中心、咖啡厅和花店。静谧沉思园配有多种宗教室、一系列的水景、全新的墓碑和纪念区。

It’s rare for a cemetery to look to the future but Bunurong Memorial Park has been designed to evolve over time. Those who visit the park in 20 years from now will have a different experience to those who visit today. Part of thedesigners challenge was to create a space that was truly timeless. ASPECT Studios worked closely with BVN Architects to deliver an 11 hectare site that shifts the memorial experience to one that is connected to the Australian landscape and new community memorial trends. A central formal garden serves as a centrepiece for the new architectural designed chapels and facilities include an administration and function centre, funeral services centre, café and florist. There is a contemplative garden associated with multi-faith rooms, a series of water features and new grave and memorialisation areas for the community.

澳派景观的设计改变了项目地和周边之间的关系。游客从入口进入，就像进入艺术馆或者经典教堂空间一样，摆脱每日的琐事，进入一个全新的空间，在不同系列的户外空间感受不同的体验。Bunurong纪念公园是一个具有丰富体验的空间。人们可以来到这里悼念逝去的爱人，或是参加婚礼，参加会议或者仅仅是喝咖啡。在景观环境内，人们可以用不同的方式悼念爱人。

The design has changed the threshold relationship of the site. Visitors enter via one entrance and, just like entering a gallery or classic cathedral space, they are removed from the everyday and step into a whole new context with various sequences of outdoor rooms that shape the many journeys people will take throughout the site. Bunurong Memorial Park is a highly experiential space. If you’re visiting to pay respects to a passed loved one or attending a wedding, conference or just to have coffee, there is an appropriate setting for each purpose. The landscape also provides a rich selection of possibilities for memorialising loved ones.

公园的植物仍是新栽，但是设计的结构对于来访的人们非常清晰。在之后的几个月，全新栽种着澳大利亚花卉的公园将呈现花团锦簇的景色。

The plantings of the park are yet to mature but the structure of the design is clear to all who visit and, in the coming months, the newly planted Australian flower garden will begin to bloom.
