YOY, a Tokyo-based design studio is holding a solo exhibition titled “DOTS by YOY” at Milan Design Week 2025 unveiling two brand-new works “ANTS” and “CONSTELLATIONS”. The venue is Galleria Clio Calvi Rudy Volpi, a gallery in the Brera Design District.

蚂蚁
Ants

一款由蚂蚁指示时间的时钟。蚂蚁作为地球上数量最多的群居生物之一，在此被类比为时钟指针——一个在人类社会中维持秩序不可或缺的物件。逼真的等比例蚂蚁模型通过超高精度3D打印技术制作而成，并在时钟内部通过磁力驱动移动。在全球已知的两万多种蚂蚁种类中，YOY精选了六种不同的蚂蚁，分别制作了六个时钟，每个时钟显示该蚂蚁分布地区的当地时间。

A clock in which ants tell the time. Ants, regarded as one of the planet’s most numerous social organisms, are here likened to the hands of a clock, an object indispensable for social order in human society. Realistic, life-sized ant models, produced on an ultra-high-precision 3D printer, are moved by magnets within the clock. From among the over 20,000 ant species said to inhabit the world, six distinct species were selected. Six clocks were then created, each displaying the local time of the region in which its respective species is found.

这六种蚂蚁及其主要分布区域如下：Cephalotes clypeatus（巴西及南美部分地区）Messor barbarus（西班牙及南欧部分地区）Dorylus helvolus（肯尼亚及撒哈拉以南非洲地区）Diacamma indicum（印度及南亚地区）Formica japonica（日本及东亚部分地区）Amblyopone australis（澳大利亚及大洋洲部分地区）。

The six species of ants created are as follows, with their main distribution areas indicated in parentheses: Cephalotes clypeatus (Brazil and other parts of South America), Messor barbarus (Spain and other parts of southern Europe), Dorylus helvolus (Kenya and other parts of sub Saharan Africa), Diacamma indicum (India and other parts of South Asia), Formica japonica(Japan and other parts of East Asia), Amblyopone australis (Australia and other parts of Oceania).

星座
Constellations

一系列将星座“封装”进灯具的作品。作品通过三维电路板呈现星座图案，细长的金属条连接着芯片LED灯。过去，星座用于指示方向、季节，帮助塑造了不同文化身份；而如今，星座更多被视为神秘或浪漫的象征。YOY希望通过这款灯具，表现的不是传统意义上的星座本身，而是“脱离夜空，化为符号”的星座。

A series of lamps that encapsulate constellations. The constellation is rendered on a three dimensional circuit board, where chip LEDs are connected by slender strips. In the past, constellations served to indicate directions and seasons, and helped shape cultural identities. These days, however, they tend to be viewed as symbols of mystery or romance. This lamp’s motif is not so much the constellations themselves, but rather ‘constellations detached from the night sky and reduced to a sign’.

吊灯系列展现了十二星座，包括： 白羊座、金牛座、双子座、巨蟹座、狮子座、处女座、天秤座、天蝎座、射手座、摩羯座、水瓶座、双鱼座。台灯则以仙后座（Cassiopeia）为主题。星座形状参考了国际天文学联合会（IAU）发布的官方星图制作。

The pendant lamps feature the twelve zodiac constellations: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpius, Sagittarius, Capricornus, Aquarius, and Pisces. The table lamp features Cassiopeia. The shapes of the constellations were created with reference to the diagrams published by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
