54.2 is an interior for a small restaurant. The room was conceived of as a series of stratified horizontal layers: a haphazard bent copper tube suspension system; lit, blown glass pendants designed to have cavities in which succulents and cacti are planted; Reclaimed wood slabs serving as tables, benches; a forest of steel tubes making up the table and bench legs; a concrete floor. The visitor pierces through these layers as they make their path through the room.

Bocci’s long experience of working with glass is evident in 38, a chandelier formed from various sized spheres of glass. Using special techniques, involving pushing air in and out of heated and cooled glass, 38 is comprised of large glass spheres that are interspersed with deliberately introduced cavities. These cavities form spaces for lighting elements, with some large enough to support planting, depending on the size of the sphere. Entirely created by hand, 38 has an organic, shifting quality, with copper tubing used as both wire conduits and structural support. The end result is a chandelier of shifting character, with the idiosyncratic blend of vegetation and light creating a floating interior landscape.
