珠海市想在2017郑州国际园林博览会上建造一个代表自己城市的展览花园，并委托我们进行设计。作为城市展园，这个花园必然要有一定的象征性，能表达出这个城市在某些方面的典型特征，同时，我们希望它还能够展现出花园艺术上的创新，以及在材料、技术和建造等方面的新的可能。

The city of Zhuhai intended to exhibit a city garden at 2017 Zhengzhou International Garden Expo and committed us to design it. Generally, a city garden would symbolically represent the typical characteristics of the city. But in addition to this, we hoped that it would show innovations in art and possibilities in applying new materials and new technologies.

珠海这座城市的名字从字面上理解，可以诠释为“珍珠之海”。它是一座美丽的现代海滨城市，拥有弯曲的海岸线，成群的海岛，波浪冲刷的海滩和绿荫覆盖的城市。受此启发，花园的设计采用了大海与珍珠的主题：曲折的海岸线，蚌壳铺成的白色沙滩，一系列岛屿，一座蜿蜒的栈桥串联起6个珍珠。小桥在1700m²的花园中创造了180m长的游览路径，或架于蚌壳滩和水面之上、或穿越于树林之中，不断变化着高度和视角，吸引人进入花园并体验花园。

Zhuhai, whose name can be interpreted as “the sea of pearls” literally, is an amazing modern coastal city featuring curved coastline, numerous islands, beautiful beaches and shady trees. Inspired by this, we design the garden with the theme of sea and pearls: a serpentine coastline, a piece of white clamshell beach, a series of islands, and a winding bridge that connects six ‘pearls’. In this 1700m² garden, a 180m-long-route proceeds over the clamshell beach and pool, and goes through the woods. It constantly changes in elevation and provides different perspectives, inviting people to go into and experience the garden.

珍珠既是花园中的景观焦点，也是游人驻足观赏和休息的构筑物，设计采用了异形片状格栅构成非线性球状结构，外形饱满，内部中空，边界是半透明的，如同珍珠一样晶莹剔透。

The ‘pearls’ are not only the focuses of the garden, but also the pavilions for visitors to stay and take a view. The design employs a non-linear spherical structure made up of profiled white sheets, which looks full from the outside but is hollow on the inside.

栈桥将晶莹剔透的珍珠岛彼此串联，在有限的场地中，通过竖向的变化、视线的转换、不同空间的营造和珠海典型植物群落的结合，为公众提供了丰富的空间体验和感受珠海城市韵味的场所。

These translucent ‘pearls’ are connected to each other by bridges. In this limited place, the design of Zhuhai garden provides the public with multiple space experience and a place to fell Zhuhai city’s features by the integration of various elevation design, changeable sight lines, different space creations and typical plant communities in Zhuhai.

正对入口的水池中伫立着珠海的城市标志——渔女雕塑。与原版石雕不同的是，这个雕塑采用了更抽象的不锈钢镂空形式，与整个花园的风格更协调。花园中植物的选择以绿色为主，突出珍珠和沙滩的素雅，避免团花锦簇以至于喧宾夺主。

With the semi-translucent surfaces, these structures are bright and glistening like pearls. In the pool facing the entrance stands a miniature fisherwoman sculpture, which is the symbol of Zhuhai. To harmonize with the garden style, the sculpture adopts an abstract form of punched stainless steel instead of the original stone one. The plants in the garden are mostly green foliage trees with few blooms, highlighting the white pearls and beaches, avoiding colorful background clashing with the main elements.

珠海园的设计以象征性的手法体现了珠海的城市特征，具有鲜明的风格。它既具有抽象的美学特征，又是可游可赏可停留的花园空间。它表达的是设计师对珠海这座城市的理解，追求的是一个能诱发想象、充满艺术气息并具有丰富体验的花园。

The design of Zhuhai Garden symbolizes the city’s features in a distinctive style. With abstract beauty and changing spaces, it represents the designers’ understanding of Zhuhai city and embodies the pursuance for an artistic garden that can evoke imagination and bring about rich spatial experience.
