MAD no doubt is one of the most recognized architectural practices in China and worldwide. Every year,MAD receives countless job and internship applications. Who is your favourite architect? Why?
Right now, my taste tends towards the simple and elegant styles. When I work on projects, I like to play with the way light and materials work together and experiment how this could affect the mood of a space. I am always weary of picking a favorite designer, because I prefer to focus on a project itself rather than its supposed creator. As such I am currently quite fond of projects to the likes of the Barcelona Pavilion, the Salk Institute etc.
What is the major characteristic of your current school’s education?
The School of Architecture at McGill is very inconsistent in its approach towards design. Different studio professors in the same class would have drastically dissimilar methodologies and taste, and it’s quite a shame whenever a student is assigned to an incompatible teacher.
What have you gained during the MAD internship?
This was my first ever internship, and I have learn much about the way a project is developed in the real world (as opposed to the school studio environment). I have also met some really awesome people in this office, especially the architects I worked for, who provided me with such guidance and consideration for which I feel extremely grateful.
What are your thoughts and feelings upon Chinese Architecture and the environment? Any suggestion?
If we are talking about contemporary Chinese architecture then I would say that there is still much to be desired.
What is your dream?
Create beauty.
What would you do if you were not an architect?
Industrial design, graphic design and/or software design (some people call it engineering but that would be most inaccurate).
What is your dream project?
Any project where I could have complete creative freedom.
What is your favourite project in your portfolio?
Why? I am quite critical of my work, when looking at my older projects I would always find things that I wish I had done differently. I guess this is a paradox in nature of all creative fields: the fact that we are trying to pursue perfection, knowing full well that it cannot be achieved! When someone inquires, I would often pick my latest project as the one I prefer the most, since I didn’t have enough time yet to find all the things I dislike about it.

最喜欢的建筑师是谁？为什么？
现在我的口味趋于简单和优雅的风格。我在设计的时候更喜欢研究光和材料对空间情感和品质的影响。相比选择自己喜欢的建筑师，我更愿意把重点放在项目上，我喜欢的项目比如有：巴塞罗那博览会德国馆，萨尔克生物研究中心。
你所在学校的教育特点？
麦吉尔大学建筑学院对待设计的方法是多样化的，每个研究室的老师类型都不一样，要是学生被分配到不喜欢的老师的工作室，那是相当之衰的！
在MAD实习最大的收获是什么？
这是我第一次实习，我了解到真实世界的项目是怎么回事（和学校工作方式完全不一样）。还在办公室人认识了非常多的很棒的人，比如带我做项目并给我指导和建议的建筑师，真的是非常感谢。
你对中国建筑的感触是什么？建议是什么？
要是说对中国当代的建筑的感触，我觉得不足的地方还是挺多的。
你的梦想是什么？
创造美。
你如果不当建筑师会选择什么职业？
工业设计，平面设计或软件设计（有人说软件设计是工程性质的，这种说法不准确）
你梦想中的项目是什么样的？
任何我完全自由创作的项目。
在自己的作品集中，你最喜欢的作品是什么？为什么？
我批判性的看待自己的作品，那些旧作品我总能发觉到我想做还没做的其它不同部分。也许这是创意领域的矛盾吧：努力追究完美却知道完美难以企及。因此当人问起的时候，我会选自己最新的项目作为自己最喜欢的，因为我还没有足够的时间挑错，让我自己不去喜欢它。
