“Your Good Taste Is Showing” by Robin F. Williams

Robin F. Williams在P.P.O.W的展览选用了极具嘲讽意味的主题 “Your Good Taste Is Showing”来直击当代性别歧视。Williams十分钟情于上个世纪七十年代的商业摄影作品。在该系列作品的创作过程中，她浏览了众多源自上个世纪的老式杂志封面，并从中汲取创作灵感。譬如作品中展示了一些女性模特，她们用不太舒服的摆拍造型来取悦众人。女性需要赋权，然而社会却普遍认为这种赋权的主动性在于女性自己。这是一种致命性的错误理解。不可否认的是，想要获得权力，女性必须首先认为自己是有价值的，是值得被尊重的，拥有掌控自己身体和性的自治权，并且有能力去追逐自己的真实需求。然而这种女性的自我肯定和女性赋权是需要区别开来的。因为只有当女性生活在被赋予权利的氛围下，她们才会感到权利在自己的手中。

 

 

The show at P.P.O.W of Robin F. Williams used a satirical tittle of “Your Good Taste Is Showing” which with the aim to straightly hit the multilayered sexism of modern life. Williams shows her great interest in the commercial photography of the nineteen-seventies. She gained many inspirations by viewing the vintage Playgirl magazines and online photographs. Such us some women models in her paintings are presented in the unlikely, uncomfortable poses to satisfy the public appetite. Female have to be empowered. Yet it is thought that the empowerment is the responsibility of women. This is ridiculous. We have to admit that, female must be firstly believe that they are valuable and are worth to be respect, and have the autonomy in both of their physical and sexual, and capable in their pursuits. However, this kind of self-affirmation should be distinguished from the female empowerment. Because, women feel empowered when they are actively empowered by their culture.

 

 

 

 

 

除了各种姿态的女性形象之外，该系列作品中还有一只猫的肖像画。Williams发现，在互联网中人们搜索最多的图片类型是女性裸体和猫，这与人们的潜意识行为有关。猫的舔浴行为映射了女性性征，对猫的形象的描绘，则是让人通过画面来直射自己的内心，而非直接将内心的真实呈现到他们眼前。作为女权主义的绝对拥护者，Williams希望用绘画描绘出女性的欲望，从而表达女权的重要性。

Except for various portraits of females, the series also includes a cat. In Williams research, she found that cat is as equal as the images of naked women in the internet searching, which is related to our subconsciousness. Cats bathe by licking themselves signify the presence of female sexuality. By painting this, Williams hints the desire inside the viewers’ heart instead of showing exactly what they want in front of them. As an advocate of feminism, Williams is trying to express the female desire through her paintings, thus to reflect the significance of rights for women.
