NOT A HOTEL has announced a collaboration with the sleep-tracking game app Pokémon Sleep to open a “Poké Ball-Themed Hotel” in Tomakomai City, Hokkaidō. This project commemorates the 30th anniversary of Pokémon and the third anniversary of the Pokémon Sleep app. NOT A HOTEL has built a Poké Ball-Themed Hotel measuring three meters in diameter in which guests can spend the night while immersing themselves in a world inspired by the iconic Poké Ball. Winners of an upcoming social media campaign for Pokémon Sleep on X (formerly Twitter) will receive a unique right to stay at this facility.

Until now NOT A HOTEL has pursued this through combining various forms of creative activity—architecture, technology, cuisine, and mobility—to craft unprecedented experiences for its owners and guests. Now, to mark the milestones of Pokémon’s 30th anniversary and the third anniversary of Pokémon Sleep, NOT A HOTEL is working to create a new kind of accommodation experience in collaboration with the globally beloved Pokémon franchise. For years, Pokémon fans have dreamed of stepping inside a Poké Ball. NOT A HOTEL, leveraging its architectural and technological expertise, has turned that dream into a reality. A three-meter-diameter Poké Ball-Themed Hotel on the lakeshore

The Poké Ball-Themed Hotel is situated right by the lakeside. Designed as a spherical structure with a diameter of three meters, its interior serves as a bedroom where guests can spend the night. It is fully equipped with amenities essential for a comfortable stay, including a bed, air conditioning, and lighting. A large, curved acrylic window is incorporated into the sphere, allowing guests to gaze out at the magnificent nature of Hokkaido while lying in bed. Guests can drift off to sleep enveloped in the tranquility of nature inside the lakeside Poké Ball-Themed Hotel, and wake up in the morning to the scenery visible through the curved window. Spending a night inside this three-meter-diameter Poké Ball-Themed Hotel provides guests with an experience of feeling like they are diving right into the world of Pokémon. Playful touches are scattered throughout the details; for instance, the adjacent washroom area features tiles inspired by the colors of Snorlax.

About architectural design and planning

该设施的建筑设计由NOT A HOTEL内部建筑团队NOT A HOTEL ARCHITECTS主导。目标是从精灵球中汲取影响，同时创造一个宾客可以享受真正舒适过夜体验的空间。团队运用NOT A HOTEL积累的建筑专业知识和技术诀窍，打造了一个直径三米的球体。每一个细节都经过精心设计：从构成三米宽球体的模压亚克力半球，到贴合弧形内部的定制圆形床垫，再到沿球面无缝闭合的工程推拉门。甚至空调和照明系统也经过精心打磨，以确保在这个紧凑空间内提供高品质的居住体验。这座结构超越了建筑与产品设计的界限，将宝可梦的世界与定义NOT A HOTEL的建筑品质融为一体。

The architectural design of this facility was led by NOT A HOTEL ARCHITECTS, the in-house architectural team of NOT A HOTEL. The goal was to take influence from the Poké Ball while creating a space where guests can enjoy a truly comfortable overnight stay. The team deployed NOT A HOTEL’s accumulated architectural expertise and technical know-how to create a sphere with a three-meter diameter. Every detail was meticulously designed: from the molded acrylic hemispheres forming the three-meter-wide sphere to the custom-made circular mattress that fits the curved interior and the sliding door engineered to close seamlessly along the spherical surface. Even the air conditioning and lighting systems were carefully refined to ensure a high-quality living experience within this compact space. This structure transcends the boundaries of architecture and product design, fusing the world of Pokémon with the architectural quality that defines NOT A HOTEL.
