For Italian textile producer Rubelli, studio Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters made a specialseries of Avifauna birds, which was shown at Spazio Rossana Orlandi, during the 2012 Salonedel Mobile in Milan. The series contains 13 different birds varying from a swan and stork toa woodcock and a quail, all covered in Reticolo Ardesia fabric form Rubelli’s collection.

Avifauna, the bird life, is a series of conserved bird species molded in textile.“After having observed, analyzed and documented nature, we’ve stared with Avifauna tomaterialize nature as we see it. In every new project we learn more about the change ofland, water and the flora and fauna that go with it. Being designers we see blossomingtimber, bleeding textiles, moving garlands and a limitless offer of techniques in the waysnature constantly changes and adapts. We try to materialize our observations and bring it closer to the industry we work in. In Avifauna we molded on the conserved parts of thespecies to materialize their characteristics in textiles.

In 2010 the collection existed among others of a Grey Heron, Tawny Owl, Lapwing andBlackbird. Now the collection expanded with this special edition collection for Rubelli.
