In the quaint village of Qingshan, situated in the heart of Hangzhou, a captivating bamboo structure installation called “The String of Qingshan” harmoniously blends with the expansive bamboo-covered mountains, creating a remarkable stage setting. This striking masterpiece is the central stage installation crafted by the Yuan JIANG and his team for the local Alibaba Design Week satellite exhibition, known as the “2023 REVERBERATION QINGSHAN Art SEASON.”

Engage in a Dialogue with the Stars and Listen to the Echoes of Nature

在植被丰盈的自然场所，设计所代表的现代工业词汇天然地引发观念碰撞。“未来乡村”寓意着什么？建造一定意味着现代工业的入侵吗？建筑师期望在自然场所创造出属于当地的公共艺术，而不只是带入城市的工业成果。姜元希望用融合的传统竹材与当代数字媒体，与竹山，与星空展开对话，营造一个在青山聆听自然回响的场所。

In a lush and verdant environment, the introduction of contemporary industrial design naturally sparks a clash of concepts. What exactly does the term “future village” signify? Must construction always entail the intrusion of modern technology? The architect’s ambition is to establish local public art in natural locale rather than urban industrial achievements. Yuan JIANG aspires to initiate a conversation between the traditional bamboo and modern digital media. This dialogue is intended to resonate with the bamboo-covered mountains and the starry night sky, forming a space where one can tune in to the natural echoes within the lush mountains.

跳跃的和谐关系
A dynamic and harmonious relationship

弦理论中，宇宙无处不是微小的琴弦。当琴弦共振，将奏响宇宙的交响诗篇。以此为创作灵感，姜元思考着“生命交响”应有的形态，以”山的竹木”和”人的艺术”作为弦，在大地之上编织起一架巨型的环形琴。

《青山之弦》以在地竹材为主结构，融入智能光电系统，以数字艺术为媒介，构筑虚与实的连接，交织出莫比乌斯环状的纯粹形态，以跳跃的橙色屹立山间。

In String Theory, the cosmos is brimming with tiny strings. As these strings vibrate, they produce the cosmic symphony of the infinite universe. Drawing creative inspiration from this concept, Yuan JIANG envisions the formation of the “Symphony of Life, ” where “mountain’s bamboo” and “human’s art” act as strings, intertwining to create a grand circular harp upon the Earth.

“The String of Qingshan” primarily utilizes bamboo from the local area. It incorporates smart optoelectronic systems and employs digital art to establish a bridge between the virtual and tangible realms. It weaves the pristine shape of a Mobius ring, vividly standing amidst the mountains adorned with lively orange hues.

全周期在地的可持续策略
Holistic On-site Sustainable Strategy

乡村装置，依山而建，体现的是与大地的链接。团队在地取材，请当地的匠人在地制作，避免钢筋水泥，工业加工，外部运输等常规建造流程。最后，装置的竹材全部取自山间，以传统的工艺进行烧炼、晾干和造型，经当地富有经验的匠人之手编织而成。

The rural installation, situated in the mountain, symbolizes a profound connection with the natural world. The architects are resolute in their commitment to an indigenous approach for every aspect of construction: materials sourced from the land, reliance on local craftsmanship, on-site production, and a deliberate effort to reduce the use of industrial building materials. Ultimately, every bamboo component employed in the installation is harvested from the mountains, subjected to traditional processes of burning, drying, and shaping, and masterfully woven by skilled local artisans.

舞台的承重区域也全采用了竹子编织。如此大尺度、造型复杂的全竹结构，覆以竹编表皮的舞台，对当地的手工艺人是从未有过的经验。《青山之弦》在多位驻地设计师，与手工艺人们现场反复沟通中得以完成。

The entire load-bearing section of the stage is intricately crafted from bamboo. Creating such a large and complex bamboo structure, with the stage adorned in a bamboo woven exterior, proved to be a formidable task for the local artisans. The realization of “the String of Qingshan” was achieved through persistent on-site collaboration and communication between numerous resident designers and craftsmen.

随着艺术季的落幕，喧闹过后的《青山之弦》又是村民休憩与娱乐的小天地，这一装置也演变为可对应不同活动用途的两种舞台：大型活动的外向主舞台，以及小型演出的内向小剧场。

As the art season comes to a close, amidst the bustling activities, “the String of Qingshan” has transformed into a serene retreat and entertainment spot for the local villagers. This installation has also evolved into two distinct types of stages, each serving different purposes: the primary outward stage for grand events and the intimate inner theater for smaller performances.

是青山的舞台也是星空的入口
The Qingshan Stage: Gateway to the Starry Sky

如何将这一传统材料以一种全新体验呈现出来，如何令作品的当代气质自然展现，是创作思考的方向。初到青山村的夜晚，无边的天空中闪烁的繁星给了创作团队极大震撼。经过多次尝试，团队延续了一直以来数字与实体融合的设计理念，将数字光影系统与传统的材质融合在一起。

The creative direction revolves around presenting traditional materials in a novel and immersive manner while seamlessly infusing a contemporary essence into the work. On the very first night when the team arrived at Qingshan Village, the awe-inspiring stars in the expansive sky left a profound impact on them. After several endeavors, the team consistently pursued the design concept of melding digital and tangible elements, skillfully combining digital lighting and shadow systems with conventional materials.

夜晚，当程序控制的光影亮起，犹如旋转的银河般闪烁于山间，给人们犹如步入星空的浪漫体验。自然、科技与艺术有机地在这里共生。建成后的《青山之弦》凭依草坪，背临竹山，碰撞的色彩中，光与影相互交叠。平日里，以其纯粹的色彩与形态展开和星空的对谈；热闹时，交错的光影和旋律令人们沉浸在艺术的炽烈。在此，人们感受到自我与自然的共生关系，感受到生命的无限可能性。它不仅是一个艺术装置，更是一个让每个人展示自我、体验广袤山林和草坪的场所。

During the night, as the programmatically controlled light and shadows illuminate, it sparkles akin to a spinning Milky Way amongst the mountains, offering a romantic sensation as if one has entered the starry sky. Here, nature, technology, and art harmoniously coexist. Upon its completion, “the String of Qingshan” rests gently against the verdant lawn, gazing out towards the bamboo-covered mountain in the backdrop. In this interplay of colors, light and shadow gracefully intertwine. On regular days, it invites conversations with the starry sky through its simple colors and shapes. When the atmosphere is vibrant, the interplay of light, shadow, and melody envelops individuals in the intensity of art. In this space, individuals encounter the harmonious bond between themselves and the natural world, discovering the boundless potential of life. It’s not just an artistic installation but a space for everyone to express themselves and engage with the expansive mountains, forests, and meadows.
