由John Hix建筑事务所设计的Hix岛屿太阳能住宅酒店位于波多黎各别克斯岛，是加勒比海区域首个完全脱离了商业电网支持的全太阳能酒店。4个单卧室的越层和两个双卧室的越层可接待16位旅客，所有房间都配套有传统酒店设施包括功能齐全的厨房。
Designed by John Hix Architect, Casa Solaris at Hix Island House hotel on the Island of Vieques, Puerto Rico is the first all solar hotel accommodation in the Caribbean that is entirely removed from the commercial electricity grid. Sixteen guests in 4) one bedroom lofts and 2) two bedroom lofts enjoy all the traditional amenities including well appointed kitchens.

在平面上，建筑朝向有利于加勒比海信风聚集并穿堂而过，省去了安装空调设备的需求。房间使用LED照明灯，节能吊顶风扇和其他设施以减少其总体能耗。光伏面板和电池为酒店提供了电力支持，顾客能为ipad和电脑充电。热水板可加热雨水用于露天淋浴，而洗盥污水直接灌溉了花园。
Casa Solaris plan is oriented on the site to gather the constant trade winds of the Caribbean Sea for cross ventilation. There is no air conditioning. Energy demand is reduced with LED lighting, energy efficient ceiling fans and appliances. Photovoltaic panels and batteries provide electricity. Guests charge their Ipads and computers directly from the Sun. Hot water panels heat stored rainwater for the open air showers; grey water irrigates the gardens.

Hix岛屿酒店没有安装玻璃，房间的大开窗饱览周围大自然的秀美景色，滚动钢材门可闭合以此加强房间在飓风天气中的稳定性。建筑选用重型钢筋混凝土以抵御强风的侵袭和白蚁的蛀蚀。
No glass is used at Hix Island House. The large openings that frame the surrounding natural views are fitted with rolling steel doors, securing the building during hurricane season. Heavy reinforced concrete construction is chosen for wind and termite protection.
