Look Back | the Curator activities of Jisushe in 2017 Guangzhou Design Week

由广州本地七家设计公司组成的积粟社在本届广州设计周的亮相及其联合出品的“粮仓”主题的展示空间获得了相当的关注和好评。这既是对七家设计公司两个月以来辛勤工作的肯定,也是幸运使然。初春雏燕,呢喃振羽。雏燕初飞,本不望高飞,只盼落地时不是摔下来的;初鸣之鸟,未预期其声婉转,只盼出声不哑。积粟社在设计周的表现,在某种程度而言,可以说是出乎意料之外。

The exhibition organized by the seven local design companies called “Jisushe”in Guangzhou won considerable attention and praise in the exhibition space of 2017 Guangzhou Design Week and the exhibition space of the “granary” theme jointly produced. This is not only an affirmation of the hard work of the seven design companies for two months, but also fortunate. To some extent,the performance of Jisushe in Guangzhou Design Week can be said to be unexpected.

于设计周之前两个月聚合在一起,形成积粟社这样一个设计联合体,美其名可谓果断迅速,站到另一层面,也可谓之仓促。起始本欲戏称其“乌合”——盖临时起意,七家公司又都觉兴趣,于是聚集而草创无章法可依——七家设计工作室的带头人均大笑,最终未取此名,大家嫌其不雅,自黑与自嘲并不容易。波德莱尔曾感到“疯狂的翅膀在思绪间扫过”。直到开展前的那几个小时,七家设计公司,无论是老板还是员工,无论是安装工人还是赞助商大概都能在心底里感受到这对翅膀掠过的影子。作为最终落地的空间搭建,是综合七家设计公司各自对设计的理解、理念和功能需求基础之上协商的产物。其重点不在于最终作品体现的本身,而在于其形成的过程。

In the two months before the 2017 Guangzhou Design Week , they were grouped together to form a design consortium“Jisushe”.It can be described as decisively rapid or as hurried. The original intention was to jokingly call it “Wuhe”—these seven companies were all interested, so they gathered and had no rules to follow—the leaders of the seven design studios all laughed loudly. It is not easy for everyone to be indecent, since it is dark and self-deprecating. Baudelaire once felt “crazy wings swept across his thoughts.” Until the few hours before the activity, the seven design companies, whether the bosses or employees, installation workers or sponsors, could all feel the shadow of the passing wings. As the final landing space construction, it is the product of the consultation of the seven design companies on the basis of their understanding of the design, concepts and functional requirements. The emphasis is not on the actual expression of the final work but on the process of its formation.

只要是涉及到联合的行动,就必有政治的存在。合作是某种意义的结盟,结盟就必须有妥协——妥善协商。七家设计公司,平时虽有联系,但各自方向不同,对设计的理解和利益诉求也不尽同。谓之仓促,是因为一开始大家因为一个共同的愿景聚首一处,但要将各自理解的愿景最终形成一个共同的作品落地,其过程所需心力、智力,以及实施时所需的财力、人力和物力,所承受之压力,则远非初起意时的框架所能包容。

As long as it involves joint operations, there must be political existence. Cooperation is an alliance in a certain sense, and alliances must be compromised – properly negotiated.Although the seven design companies usually have links, their respective directions are different, and their understanding of design and their interests are not all the same.The hurriedness is due to the fact that at the outset everyone gathers together for a common vision, but they want to form a common work for their respective visions. The process requires mental and intellectual resources, as well as the financial and human resources needed for implementation. And the physical and material pressures are far from being able to be accommodated by the framework of the initial intention.

彭社长在活动讲演时例举的统计数据,积粟社的成员工作过程中并无察觉,直到统计时才吓了一跳。而这些数字背后所进行的工作,更非寻常笔墨所能形容。因为一切的工作在进行时都会出现出乎预想之外的情况,积粟社作为一个聚集时间极短的设计集体,为设计周所要展现的作品所做的工作,从如何体现每一个体对这个空间的设计理念到图纸,宣传和时间的配合,现场安装的把握,如何合作才是对这个集体的真正考验。

The statistical data cited by Mr Peng Zheng’s president during the event was not noticed during the work of the members of Jisushe. They did not startle until statistics.The work behind these figures is even more unusual.Because all the work is going to happen unexpectedly, the Jisushe as a design group with a very short time to gather, works for the design of the work to be shown in the week and how each individual reflects this. From the design concept of space to drawings, propaganda and time, and the on-site installation, how to cooperate is the true test of this collective.

空间的理念最后确定为“粮仓”和“自留地”。“粮仓”取其“聚”,是共同的表现,是积粟社存在的意义;“自留地”取其“散”,是每个个体个性的存在,是集体条件下的各得其所。在空间的现实表达上则运用轻质的纸质可回收材料,实现零浪费,百分之百可回收的环保理念。在最后成形的空间状态中,它体现的不再仅仅是“粮仓”,而是因“仓”而引出“市”。其整体结构所体现的,是一个社会关系的模型——公共发布的场所,街道和供“市”的相对独立的展示空间。“粮仓”是“聚”,是这次活动未呈现前的状态,是合作;“市”是呈现的客观完成状态,是互换,是交流,是共生。

The concept of space was finally identified as “granary” and “reserve land.” The “grand” of “granary” is a common performance and is the significance of the existence of the millet. The “reserve land” is the “existence” and is the existence of each individual character. In the real expression of space, lightweight paper recyclable materials are used to realize zero-waste and 100% recyclable environmental protection concepts. In the final shaped space state, it is no longer merely a “granary,” but rather a “city” derived from the “warehouse.”Its overall structure reflects the model of a social relationship – the place of public release, the streets and the relatively independent exhibition space for the “city”. The “granary” is a “poly” and it is a state before this activity is not presented. It is cooperation. The “city” is an objectively completed state of presentation. It is exchange, exchange, and symbiosis.

积粟社本次活动的初声,从结果看,固然算得圆满。但作为积粟社的成员,我们更愿意多一些检讨过程中存在的问题。设计师完成并且展现的作品,最终是设计者对某种文化和族群社会的认知,然后以设计出来的作品影响其社会生活。商业社会制造明星,设计师中的佼佼者也会被赋予炫目的光环,是明星般的存在,同时也是促进社会生活方式的积极因素。从这个角度讲,设计是创造时髦,又无法回避深沉的矛盾的结合体。

The initial sound of this activity by Jisushe was considered satisfactory from the results. However, as a member of Jisushe, we are more willing to have more questions in the review process.The works that the designers have completed and displayed are ultimately the designer’s perception of a certain culture and ethnic group society, and then influence the social life of the designer with his works.The celebrity in the business community, the star of the designer, will be given a dazzling aura, a star-like presence, and a positive factor in promoting social life.From this point of view, design is a combination that creates fashion and cannot avoid deep contradictions.

疯狂的翅膀在思绪间扫过。但愿积粟社在下一次呈现其作品的同时也能呈现其理性的进步,哪怕仅仅是一小步。

Crazy wings swept between thoughts. It is hoped that Jisushe will demonstrate its rational progress at the next presentation of its works, even if it is only a small step.

Jisushe Pavilion | Design Highlights

设计将展览空间规划成一个小型而直观的“市”,将传统的戏台这类的公共聚会区域嬗变为论坛区,而将七家公司的作品展示,以半开放的“铺”和开放的“街”呈现。通过空间的分割,既保留各自的独立性,又确保了“互通”的意念。通过对中国城市“坊市”传统的善意戏谑和意象模仿,表达对一种文化生成的根的记忆和尊敬。

The design will plan the exhibition space into a small and intuitive “city” that will transform the public meeting area such as the traditional stage into a forum area, and display the works of seven companies with semi-open “shop” and open “Street“ is presented. Through the division of space, it not only retains its own independence but also ensures the concept of “interconnection.” Through the traditional goodwill and imagery imitation of the “Fangshi” tradition in Chinese cities, the memory and respect for the roots of a culture are expressed.

积粟成仓,源自手作。展馆的主体由9909个阳光板制成的“光盒子”,和72865个纸皮制成的“黑砖”组成。七个天井对下的七块设计“自留地”中“种”上了14万支金色的麦子。更有数以千计的人员参与设计、制作、搭建,成为名副其实的“社会雕塑”。在这里,展馆变成了容器,收纳了光、麦田和装置,也收纳了自然、人文和艺术。

The main part of the pavilion is made of 9909 sun panels “light box”and 72865 “black bricks” made of paper. The seven patios planted 140,000 golden wheats on the seven design plots.Thousands of people involved in design, production, and construction have become truly “social sculptures.” Here, the pavilion becomes a container that houses light, wheat fields, and devices. It also incorporates nature, culture, and art.
