Appreciation towards Cheng Tsung FENG for providing the following description:

港岸聚集了众多船只，船帆在海上起伏交叠，那是众人将要出航的时刻，也是航行者归来的景致。艺术家范承宗与团队们以实木构筑张起在风中错落的船帆，诠释船只群聚在港的印象，他们建起一艘让人走进其中的空间，那是众人团结相聚的象征，也是农渔城镇的兴盛繁荣。

登上船，扬起帆，迎着风，迈向大海，我们出发，我们回家。

Artist Cheng Tsung FENG contrives a symbolic pavilion with wood constructions. Through the white sails harmoniously intertwined among the structure, he interprets the image of many sailboats gathering at the harbor as if an enormous sculptural entity embodies the enchanting scenery from the Donggang coast.

‘Get on board, set sails, in the breeze, towards the sea. We are about to heading outwards with bravery; we will safely return as well.’ said FENG.

构想 | Concept

我对农渔城镇有个众多船只聚集的印象，在那样的画面里，每艘船就像一个小单元，在海上组合成一个庞大的聚合体，这个聚合体透露着农渔城镇的繁荣，以及拥有相似目标的众人聚集在一起的喜悦。想以船的材质木与帆来制作一件大型立体构造，来表现众多船只聚合成一个量体，让人们能走进其中，像登上船一样。

先是以船做了一些初步的拼组，样子有趣却太过破碎，这些破碎有种锋利武器的威胁感，不是我所期待的温柔宁静，于是再试着增加一些规律，让造形的气质均匀缓和下来，在缓和的规律中，希望仍保有从不同视角能看见的错落层次，是个不同单位组合而成的均匀聚合体，而不是一个量体以造形切割来产生特征。

By way of building the Sailing Castle for attractions to people, FENG depicts the phenomenon that fishermen and boats sailing off and making homeward voyages as people entering the installation. The interaction among people and the Sailing Castle is a representation of the prosperity of the fishery industry, communal unity, expectation, and joy.

The shape of the Sailing Castle manifests the architectural attributes of local and traditional culture in Donggang via its modern art form. In the motif of FENG, the Sailing Castle is endowed with the qualities of temples, churches, and shrines. Furthermore, it furnishes audiences with distinctive charismas from day to night.

木构 | Wooden structure

带着初步的模型到与木制研团队讨论，他向我们介绍森林永续的观念和国产材，听了觉得迷人，也决定要采用在这次作品上。在处理繁琐的结构时，经常发生为了稳固，而有木料在几个部位堆积得太多，视觉上变得厚重，和船在海上、在风中的轻盈越渐遥远，为了保持轻盈，与木制研不厌其烦一再陪我们修改模型上结构连接，再从各种角度观看，这是创作过程中相当麻烦也特别有意思的部分，换作是过去配合过的木作师傅，大概没有耐性能陪我们追求轻盈。

灯光 | Lighting

经与木制研介绍，灯光设计我们找了偶得设计合作，这还是我们第一次在创作上与灯光设计团队合作，其实也不太知道该怎么沟通灯光，但至少要尽量表达清楚自己的期待。在拜访偶得设计之前，我们尽量找了一些灯光效果和我们期待的气质相似的案例，一一仔细看待排列整理起来。讨论的过程很顺利，对光的效果很快就有共识，这作品适合接近庙宇、教堂、神殿那样的气质，并且透过灯光，使作品在白天和黑夜产生多一点反差，不久后就收到了他们细腻的灯光规划说明，还没进场施作就专业得让我们期待和安心。

材料 | Material

在这件作品我们使用材料的原色，木材是FSC国际永续森林验证的台湾柳杉，选用这样的国产材除了友善森林环境外，还能将材料自林业经营到材料加工等相关产业工作与利润都留在台湾。作品在灯会结束后，大部分材料都将被再度利用而不丢弃，木材部分交给与木制研，灯件部分交给偶得设计，没有经过印刷的帆布则由我们带回工作室使用，对于这件短期展示的作品，我们尝试朝友善环境、珍惜材料、少丢弃的方向努力。

2019台湾灯会在屏东 | Taiwan Lantern Festival

台湾灯会Taiwan Lantern Festival是自1990年举办至今已30年的重要嘉年华庆典，曾被Discovery频道誉为全球最佳嘉年华庆典之一，CNN誉为52件全球值得参与的年度新鲜事，国家地理杂志誉为全球十大冬季旅游事件，它就像个混和传统和现代的大型灯光作品展览，主要是为庆祝已有千年历史的传统元宵节庆。https://2019taiwanlantern.tw/En

Taiwan Lantern Festival(TLF) is a prominent carnival having been held for three decades since 1990. TLF is considered as a magnificent lightening exhibit enriched with tradition and modernness, primarily in the celebrations of the Lantern Festival with a thousand-years-old history. TLF was chosen by Discovery Channel as ‘the second biggest New Year’s Eve celebration in the world’ and ‘one of the 52 things to do by CNN Travel’. 艺术灯区 | Art Lantern Area

第30年的台湾灯会首次开辟了艺术灯区，邀请多位艺术家到今年的主办城市屏东(Pingtung)的东港镇(Donggang Town)进行驻地创作，东港镇是以繁荣的渔业著名的海岸城镇，擅长应用传统工艺的年轻艺术家范承宗是负责主灯创作的艺术家。

The 30th TLF is noted for the first organization of Art Lantern Area, and artists-in-residence alongside participations with plenty artists all gathered in the host city, Donggang Town, Pingtung County, which is well-known for its prosper fishery industry. Cheng-Tsung FENG, a young artist with a specialization in traditional art crafts, is as the primary of the main lantern in TLF.
