越后妻友艺术祭之“耳宅声景”

“耳宅声景”是大舍与艺术家殷漪第三次就声音与空间的实验性装置创作，它既是对2018年越后妻有艺术三年展主策展人北川富朗及其团队所提出如何理解日本古代的一部文学作品《方丈记》的回应，也是大舍的主持建筑师柳亦春与艺术家殷漪多次关于声音与空间的研究与探索的呈现。

《方丈记》是藤末镰初的没落贵族鸭长明在家道中落后隐居深山，把自己置于一个四叠半（约2.7米*2.7米大小）的空间中，重新观察与思考他所置身的世界后的所思所想。而1971年，日本作家堀田善卫又写了一本《方丈记私记》。在战后的混乱之中，旧有的价值观彻底崩塌，前进的目标方向几近迷失。堀田以战时阅读的《方丈记》中鴨長明的生活方式为蓝本，锚定于自己的所居之处，从自身所居之处审视世间万物。此次“2018年的《方丈记私记》”展览是新时代对于方丈空间可能性的回顾与再探索。

“耳宅声景”是一个有关声音的迷宫，是在狭小的空间中通过声音感知世界的尝试。所有关于《方丈记》的空间再现作品均位于日本建筑师原广司设计的里山美术馆的内廊中。对于《方丈记》，作为出题人之一的建筑师原广司这样写道：

“《方丈记》首先是一本有关于‘局所性’（地域主义）的建筑论，也可以说是‘缩小的美学’。单纯地来说，在探求地域主义的故事时，将居住以1/10、1/100的比例缩小的过程是最终到达居住状态的方法。但如果仅仅是这样，我们是不能将《方丈记》称为世界史中稀有的建筑论的。重要的是下一个理论，也就是说在缩小的过程中，不仅仅是居住，而是突然出现了‘外界’，突然发生了空间转换。”

关于“2018年的《方丈记私记》”

随着全球化带来的均质化·效率化的发展，现代社会逐渐丧失着立足于地域的价值观。在这样的背景下，本届越后妻有艺术祭冀望于建筑承担责任、发展美术的力量，从四叠半的空间中观察世界的鸭长明所居住的方丈、良宽的五合庵、宫泽贤治的理想乡为起点，重新再出发。

在这次的“2018年的《方丈记私记》”展览中，出题者提出的3米x3米x3米的立方体空间，就是基于对《方丈记》的解读与再现的期待。展出的作品是组建式或者移动式的小建筑。在美术馆的回廊里布置各种各样的作品，成为假想的能够体验的原寸大小的“村”。以鸭长明的世界观为背景，建筑家和艺术馆们创造出一个个极小的空间中，映射出世界，通过这些小空间让拜访的人们看见世界。

所谓的方丈是一个空间原型，而《方丈记》和《方丈记私记》是讨论了一个处世观。极小的物理空间似乎在努力消除“内”，而关注“外”；然而立足于居所的论调，又似乎在努力地剖析“内”，从而通过“内”折射出“外”。由此《方丈记》（亦或《方丈记私记》）的处世观有两个相互矛盾的理解方式：一是通过在物理意义上的“极小空间”，将功能极限压缩、对身体的压制、对自我的消除，来感受、思考、记录外部世界。二是通过根植于居所（地域）去观察外部世界，通过对微观事物的解剖，去得到一个宏观世界的真理。（《方丈记私记》的撰写方式是基于这种逻辑的，以类似于“现场报道”的形式，对具体事件发生的现场细致地描摹，从而反映整个社会现状。）

如何在方寸空间中聚焦观者的思考或体验，我们给出的设计是一个有关声音的空间装置。

3*3*3米见方的空间本来已经很小，我们将它再次分割成纵横25个均布的方格，每个方格为600*600mm见方，由30mm厚的木板制作方格有三处部分木板落地成为支撑，方格间有单向通行的门连接，构成三组相对确定的流线。每扇门上，及方格上方设置有两个层次的音响设备。人们在经过这些方格时，对应的音箱会感应到动作从而放大局部的声音片段，于是便在整个区域范围形成变化的“声景”。这个声景将诠释我们对于城市与乡村境遇的理解，亦如越后妻有作为衰落乡村的困境。由于每个方格尺寸仅仅能容纳一人，仿佛专为人们的头部设置的空间，由于空间中只有声音能被感知，又仿佛这个空间专为人耳而设，是为“耳宅”。

现代社会建立在视觉优先的前提上，信息时代尤甚。VR等现代技术几乎试图以独立的视觉影像脱离开一系列次级感官体验（触感，嗅觉等）而获得虚拟的空间体验。但是视觉本身是否具有代表其他知觉通路的普适性？在现代哲学范畴的一系列讨论中，视觉反而被认为是一种特例，因其不支持体验的透明度。无论是嗅觉，味觉抑或是听觉，其感受都是可以叠加的信息流。从另一个角度说，与视觉不同，它们的感知与空间性无关。那么，以声音为例，其是否存在构成空间体验单一要素的可能性？（即，感知声音不通过感知声音的空间，但是是否可能通过感知声音来感知空间？）此处的“耳宅”，一个为听觉体验特别设置的家，就试图探讨这个问题。

In a society heavily overloaded with information, we are trained to be visual animals. Soaring developments along the single axis of visual sense left other perceptual passages mere subordinates. Yet with the sound art springing up these few years, the public has been provided with another, utterly different mode of thinking. Sound, as a medium and material, inherently embodies the underlying messages of cognitive approach, consumption pattern and behavioral model etc. For example, the tribe people search their sense of belonging and of existence in sonic connections. In sound artist Yinyi’s work “A party farewell” that records the elderly singing group in Hongkou Park, the implicit logics and hierarchy behind this “sound in public” were discussed; such as the correspondence between consumer space (like café) and light music, compared to that between public territory and “red songs.” Similar idea of sounds’ physicality interfering with human activities could also be seen in 2008 Hamburg train station. The classical music was played on the plaza to drive away vagrants. For these people whose homelessness is almost a protest against capitalism and mass-production, classical music is everything opposite to their belief and thus unbearable bruits. Our auditory sense is not merely about receiving, but could be a path leading to thoughts.

近几年随着声音艺术的兴起，一种完全不同维度的思考模式受到大众关注。声音作为一种媒介和材料，也包含了认知途径、消费形态、行为模式等方面的隐含信息。部落人群运用声音寻找存在感和归属感。而在声音艺术家殷漪记录虹口公园中老年唱歌群体的录音作品《为了告别的聚会》中，探讨了公共空间发声背后的逻辑与次序，比如消费空间(咖啡厅等)与轻音乐的对应关系对照红歌在公共场域中的适应性。汉堡火车站曾在2008年时以播放古典音乐的方式驱赶广场的流浪汉。对于这些以身体反资本主义反产业化和工作方式的“流浪汉”而言，古典音乐象征着他们所不认同的文化异类自然是一种耳朵的磨难。听，绝不是一件器质性的接收行为，而可以是一种思维方式。

Unlike singular focal point for visual sense, hearing could be decentralized and shift between focuses – more an auditory stream. In this vision-dominant world, such characteristic could be both a virtue and problem. On the one hand, taking the traffic light system once researched by Yinyi for example, the visual image though is standardized globally, the prompt tones are greatly diverse across the world thanks to its perceived inferiority. On the other hand, a question awaits answers as more and more sound exhibitions enter into the museums: is conventional museum/gallery spatial design (mainly for the visual experience) suitable for sound arts?

视觉动物习惯于根据光来自物体的反馈将空间分为”实”和”空”，而后者只作为前者的补集被感受到。但在听觉系统中，可能并不存在这种区分。声音本身即可成为空间。正如“鸡尾酒会效应”所述，我们其实下意识地有对输入的信息做出筛选和过滤，只选择听我们认为重要的信息。在这个过程中，很多细碎的真正生活化的声音其实没有和它们的视觉表现一起得以保留。在这个空间里，我们希望还原这部分“空(负)”的声音。

In our Hojo space, we would like to explore the possibility of audio-dominance. The vision now becomes the subsidiary sense to hearing , and the latter the major sensor towards the world. We propose a concept of “negative sound,” echoing “negative space” in architecture. Visually we understand the void by experiencing with the solid; Aurally as stated in “cocktail party effect,” we automatically filter the incoming information without notice and only listen to the important ones. In this process, the trivial sound more relevant to our daily life does not remain with their visual manifestations. Our Hojo space restores these bits and pieces, the void only, and replay them to the visitors.

不同于一般的音频或者展览馆阵列式的线性体验，我们把这些声音置于同一个空间实体，通过定向投放的方式，体验完全取决于参观者的参观流线以及参观者的人数。它可以被看成是初始均匀的声场，人介入后产生扰动。在方丈空间之中，存在含混而持续的多层次声景。当人推过与扬声器连通的一扇扇门穿行而过时，相应的声音组件局部增强而从背景中跳脱出来，与单位空间构成了一一对照的关系。每个单位空间被压缩到极小的尺度，使得声源和个体无限接近从而摆脱对声音的距离和方向判断形成的干扰。“耳宅”顶部则蒙上黑布剔除视觉上装置材料对体验的干扰。所以人在这个装置空间中的体验，其实是对单位空间声音组合序列的体验。在逼仄到只能意识到耳朵的存在的“耳宅”中，我们听到了大千世界的风景。

Sound artist shall get involved to do the field recording in both Shanghai and Echigo-tsumari and form a dialogue accordingly, between urban and suburban context, exploring the “genius loci” reflected in sound. Visitors are not simply hearing, but understand the information embedded. Unlike usual linear layout of audio experience in digital files or in museums, we place these sounds simultaneously in the same box to create an archive, a small library. By the means of targeted play (motion-sensored), the experience is customized by the number of visitors and their own chosen route.
