SpActrum在武汉设计的室内项目,海沛儿童创想乐园于2019年年中开始运营。作为一家新概念的儿童游乐园,海沛试图超越成年人对于孩子世界的符号化设定和僵化界限,以几何形态直击对孩童最具可玩性的身体与视觉体验,成为孩子心中与宇宙大地共鸣的畅想之所,奔跑仰卧的记忆之地。在当前的中国,一方面孩子生活的物质条件比80,90后小时候有了显著的进步,另一方面城市化的大潮,家长工作的繁忙使得孩子在日常空间中与自然接触的机会大大减少。Shopping Mall里的各种幼教中心,游乐中心由于其高度的可达性和项目的可控性成为孩子生活以及亲子交流的主场地。市场化的深入带来品牌化,于是各种IP和随之而来的具象形象成为对于儿童生活的主要联想。SpActrum认为,这种联想是一种资本主义的简单合谋,而非儿童生活的必要需求。一方面是缺乏自然教育带来的物感匮乏,一方面是卡通形象产生的精神束缚,儿童不应生活在成年人创造的梦幻世界;而是被提供一种场所的自由,在那里,他们复杂的、内生的,生理及心理的需要应该被满足。这个场所同时挑战着他们的感官,身体,在与场地的互动中,他们走向更成熟的年纪,走向更广阔的外部世界。

HPKidSpace, the interior project designed by SpActrum, went into operation in mid-2019. Since the project was proposed as a new concept children’s amusement park, the design team tried to look beyond the stylized environment and rigid boundaries of what adults think would normally be found in the children’s world. The vision was to create an ideal place for children to resonate with the universe and a memorable place for kids to run and also rest, and through a series of geometric forms to generate some very playable physical and perceptional experiences for children. In today’s China, the material lives of children have made significant advances when compared with the 1980s and 1990s. However, overwhelming urbanization and the busy work schedules of parents have significantly reduced the opportunities for children to interact with nature in their living spaces. Consequently, various commercial preschool centres and amusement centres in shopping malls have become central places for children’s activities and also parent-child interactions, due to their high accessibility and controllability. As marketization deepens branding, various IPs(Intellectual Properties)and their derivative images become the dominating brands for children’s lives, as envisaged by adults. SpActrum believes that this is a conspiracy of capitalism, rather than fulfilling the essential needs of children. On the one hand, there is the lack of a sense of physicality, caused by the absence of natural education; on the other hand, there are many mental constrains for children, generated by the cartoon characters and images. Children should not live in a dream world created by adults. Instead, they should be offered a place of free development, where their complex endogenous physiological and psychological needs are met. Moreover, these places should also challenge their senses and bodies. Through their interaction with the site, they can grow and move forward to a broader external world.

在与甲方取得充分的理解和共识之后,SpActrum开始了对于设计语言的探索:这个时期的工作暂时搁置了功能,造型,而是将眼光落脚在更本质的形式问题上。这种型应该是具有宇源的启发性,应该具有面向无限的感受,应该与身体可以亲密互动。宇宙无垠,即便快如光线,在这种浩瀚的尺度下也有如静止一般。宇宙无比宏大,即便刚猛如核爆,亿万次轰爆也不过表现为几不可见的一个一个圆点。高速高能量是这里的日常,整个宇宙却仿佛停止运动一般静得让人恐怖。这种静谧是宇宙的浩瀚的神秘,是博远到无可名状的无穷。我们想表达的是静止中蕴藏的极速运动,疯狂动态互相牵扯下凝练出的钝感造型。所以我们放弃了任何看似动感,速度的激烈曲面,而回归到基本的几何形,最原初的圆形。曲面包围,保护着我们,平面经过多向度的扭转,堆叠和位移,演化成一系列可以行走的斜面,激励我们去攀爬,征服,为我们保留一种地形带来的地球记忆。

After gaining the full understanding and agreement of the client, SpActrum started to explore the design language. The work during this period temporarily put aside issues of function and style, with more focus on the essential form. The form should reflect the origins of the cosmos, a strong sense of infinity and intimate interactions with the human body. The universe is boundless. Even at the speed of light, it would look static on such a vast scale. The universe is immense. Bigger than a nuclear explosion, hundreds of millions of starbursts are only a few almost invisible dots in space. Both high-speed and high-energy are the prevailing conditions, but the whole universe seems to still the movements, being static, silent and terrifying. The silence is the vast mystery of the universe. It is far from indescribable endlessness. What we wanted to express is the extreme speed of movement hidden in the stillness, and the shapes created by the crazy dragging movements of gravity. So we gave up seemingly dynamic and rapid curved surfaces, and returned to basic geometry — the primitive circle and sphere. Curved surfaces surround us and protect us. Through multidirectional torsion, stacking and displacement, the plane evolves into a series of walkable slopes, inspiring children to climb and conquer in order to acquire and preserve some memories of the earth through the terrain.

形与形之间的转换,承转启合是另一个设计的重点。除非以编程特别定义转承面的几何逻辑,fillet命令会尽量光滑地以圆弧线组成的面连接相邻的两个表面。随着对于倒圆角半径的设置,半径与此两面之间距离的大小关系,以及两个面自身形态的类别,这种看似简单的交接方式可以带来数种形态的变化以及不同的心理体验。既可以平缓地交接,也可以变得锐利,有时还会显得的拖沓肥软。既可以连缀成广大的连续界面,也可以借此分离和裂解原本稳固完满的基础几何形。这样,简单的造型在一系列操作之下展现出它的复杂和丰盛,有近乎封闭的半圆形包围,也有漂浮,交错的曲面片段。

The transformation between shapes is another focus of this design. Unless the geometry of the transfer surface is specifically defined by programming, the fillet command will connect the two adjacent faces by a face composed of circular arcs. With the adjustment of the fillet radius, the relationship between the radius and the distance between the two surfaces, and the categories of the two surfaces themselves, this seemingly simple overlapping relationship can bring about several changes in form and create a different psychological experience. They can be connected smoothly or sharply, and sometimes they can be fat and loose. They can form a sizeable continuous interface, but are also separate and can cut across the original stable, basic geometry. In this way, these simple shapes reveal their complexity and richness through a series of operations. They form a nearly closed semicircle, but also floating, interlaced curved surface segments.

基本的空间建造被分为了两个部分,球体演化的“宇宙”和斜面的“山”。“宇宙”以GRG包裹,内建正交网格钢架的骨骼系统作为支撑。斜面的”山”以钢构架进行支撑。设计团队参与深化了曲面内网格支撑体系的设计。采取分片建造的方式,设计了一套榫槽系统完成经纬插接,同时设计了一套复杂的编码系统来标示每一片钢板在整体中的位置。最后的成果是一套钢板激光切割图,切割文件被编辑在两个图层上,切割图层和激光打标图层,编码系统通过低能激光直接蚀刻在相应的分片钢板上,这样可以为现场施工提供巨大的便利。施工的难度来自那些经过倒角操作而显得破碎和分裂的形体,巨大的飘带在空中飞舞,这意味着其外表皮的重量完全由不落地的骨架支撑,必要的吊筋在跨度过于巨大的位置提供了辅助的支撑和稳定度。地面彩色的铺装同样由3d电脑化的设计提供精确的数控图纸来保证其实施精度。

The basic construction of the space is divided into two parts, the “cosmos zone” that evolved from the spheres and the “mountain zone”, which consists of the slopes. The “cosmos zone” is wrapped in GRG and is internally supported by a skeletal system comprised of orthogonal grid steel frame; the “mountain zone” is also supported by a steel frame. The design team participated in furthering the design of the grid support system within the “cosmos zone”. The collaboration with GRG, the manufacturer, helped to develop the method of construction by steel plates and also a grooving system to complete the insertions. At the same time, a complex coding system was applied to the steel pieces to indicate the position of each steel plate in the whole system. The final achievement was a set of laser cutting diagrams. The production model file and the CAD file were edited in two layers, the cutting layer and the laser layer. The coding system was directly etched on to the corresponding steel plates by a low-energy laser, which was a great convenience for on-site construction. The difficulty of construction mainly arose from the broken and split shapes after the fillet operation. The huge orbit belts ‘fly’ in the air, which means that the weight of the exterior cover is wholly supported by the suspended skeleton. The necessary hanging ribs provide auxiliary support and stability in the large spans. A set of digital-control drawings of the colourful ground paving is also mapped by 3D computer design, to ensure the accuracy of installation.

在21世纪的第二个十年,典型中国孩子有大量的时间是在购物中心里度过的。消费主义与城市化带来的都市自养地带的退后将孩子与自然隔绝起来,本项目试图给孩子一个重新接入自然的机会,进入大厅,孩子可以在山坡上奔跑,钻进一个又一个深浅不一的洞穴,在其中探寻,有些洞穴彼此相连,孩子可以在这里爬上爬下。通过观察儿童的行为,我们发现孩子的很多乐趣来自一些身体的简单行为,无需多谈意义。让他们尽情奔跑,攀爬,跳上跳下吧!场地的后部是留给更大年龄的孩子的,球体切割而成的围合空间根据大小不同,或是成为投影墙,或是以一层一层的木质台阶变身为一个小小的剧场,或者变成倒扣的碗状空间,化身为孩子举办party的绝佳场所。卡通化的形象往往带着将事物幼态化萌化的宠溺,轻易地让孩子们沉醉于梦幻迷境。可孩子不会永远只是孩子,他们是成人的萌芽,是未来的缔造者,在肉眼可见的高速成长中孕育着人的无限可能性。真正的成长需要发展洞察和抽象的能力,真实准确地认知周遭、认识自我。在海沛乐园中,我们将孩子们视为成长中的主体,缩减具象形象的刺激,以隐喻着宇宙律则的几何形态构筑探索天地,用丰富的空间和界面唤起儿童身体律动与接触的本能,让自发的好奇心和探索欲在儿童内心萌生,让童年的动与静回归于儿童自身的节奏和规律,让童年记忆不只是商业强行植入的动漫IP画面,还有孩子们主动探索自身的高光时刻,造出一方面向未来、探索成长的开阔之地。

In the second decade of the 21st century, it is typical for most Chinese children to spend a lot of time in shopping malls. The disappearance of urban natural spaces, brought about by consumerism and urbanization, isolates children from nature. This project attempts to give children a chance to reconnect with nature. They can enter the hall, run on the hillside and pass through the caves, exploring the different depths. Some caves are connected, and children can climb up and down through them. By observing children’s behaviour, we find that for children a lot of fun comes from just simple bodily actions; nothing complex is required. Just letting them run, climb, jump up and down will give them a huge amount of fun!The rear space of the site is arranged for older children. According to the different sizes of the enclosed sphere areas surrounded by the cutting sphere, these could become different spaces. It could have a projecting wall, or a small theatre with wooden circle seats and steps, or an inverted bowl shape space, which would be an excellent place for a children’s theme party.
